Location of Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft

The Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft is a wonderful art museum located in the picturesque village of Ditchling, East Sussex. The museum is dedicated to preserving and promoting the work of artists and craftspeople who have been associated with the village over the past century.

The museum's collection is housed in a beautiful historic building, which was once the home of the famous artist and typographer, Edward Johnston. The building has been carefully restored and now features state-of-the-art exhibition galleries, an education center, and a café.

The museum's collection includes a wide range of art and craft objects, including textiles, ceramics, woodwork, and metalwork. There are also many examples of graphic design, including posters, books, and typography. The collection features the work of many well-known artists and craftspeople, including Eric Gill, David Jones, and Ethel Mairet.

One of the key features of the museum is its commitment to accessibility. The museum has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, seating, toilet, and car park, as well as gender-neutral toilets. The museum also has an assistive hearing loop for visitors with hearing impairments.

The museum is family-friendly and offers a range of activities for children, including workshops, trails, and interactive displays. Advance ticket purchase is recommended, and tickets are available on the museum's website.

The museum's café serves a range of hot and cold drinks, cakes, and light meals, and is a great place to relax after exploring the museum's galleries.

The Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft has received many positive reviews from visitors, with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 on Google My Business. Visitors have praised the museum's collection, exhibitions, and accessibility, as well as the friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Lovely little museum located in the heart of the South Downs. Went for the Raymond Briggs exhibition and really enjoyed it. Lots of background information and original sketches. Friendly staff and nice little coffee shop. Also lovely little village church and pond. Will definitely go back again for new exhibitions

From start to finish our experience at the Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft was absolutely wonderful. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The Raymond Briggs exhibition was well presented and magical. Above all the commitment to creating and maintaining a disability friendly space and experience was absolutely incredible. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that disability would not be a barrier to visiting this lovely Museum. If only all spaces and attractions did this.....
A big thank you to all the staff at Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft. You made our day.

My husband and I travelled from London by train to visit the Snowman exhibition and other Raymond Briggs works at Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft. I knew nothing about him, and was interested in the information and display. I bought some items from the shop, but was disappointed there weren't more Raymon Briggs Father Christmas bits and Snowman bits for sale. It was a pleasant afternoon, in the country.

A brilliant museum telling great local stories. Really worth looking up what's on, they have had a great series of shows. With the current tenuous financial reality for arts institutions, they need your support more than ever.

Really good setup and curation. café a bit limited in terms of food.

Staff friendly and welcoming.

An incredible little gallery based in the heart of the beautiful village of Ditchling. We popped along for the “Signs of the Seaside” exhibition and I absolutely loved seeing all the books on typeface and fonts. Although we’re based in Portsmouth, I’d happily drive over here for any exhibitions in the future.
