The Field Studies Council has been based on-site in Flatford Mill for decades. Their conversion of the former working millhouse into an educational facility & student accommodation is a great achievement of conservation. The 18th Century, red-brick millhouse, is an impressive period structure, itself worthy of artistic study. The surrounding area of Stour Valley, has at its heart, the villages of Flatford & East Bergholt. For anyone seeking tranquility & unspoilt countryside, it simply couldn't be better. It's a beautiful, unspoilt rural idyll that somehow exists in its own timelessness, as if awaiting the return of John Constable. An unrivaled cultural centre to study English nature, wildlife, & art.

Waking up here ... Magical ?. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. We loved everything about it. The rooms were clean and cosy and the wifi is excellent. . The takeaway breakfast was tasty and well organised. What's not to like ... Peace, Quiet, a part of British History and Picture Perfect.

Visited for years, but only recently did I get to go inside and stay over.
What a treat, staying somewhere so iconic, seeing sunrise and sunset.

Have plenty of parking, good WiFi, and we were lucky to visit whilst an art course was happening so took advantage of a hearty dinner. Plenty of local pubs if not.

Hostel type accom, we had our own bathroom but some are shared.

Excellent value for money, would suit a large family or friends group.

Will be back

Dirty accommodation, terrible food, and a hugely disappointing art course. Don't waste your money here. I left early because it was so bad, and was refused a refund.

Thank you for a lovely stay. We learnt so many things on our field studies adventure, my girls absolutely loved it. My only complaint (sarcasm)  is that our guide Harry made it so enjoyable that they didn't want to leave.
