We got together here for a family lunch. The server was very sensitive to the fact we hadn't seen each other for a while and did not bother us unnecessarily. We enjoyed a good meal with excellent desserts.

It's been 20 years since I visited this pub, and I was pleased to see that it is still going!

The service was top notch, and the beer well kept.

I didn't eat here, but comments I overheard from other tables were positive, so I might give it a go next time.

Stopped off here after a day at Eagle Heights on a bank holiday weekend. We got a table for two with ease, happy and attentive staff. They had a wide selection of foods, including pan fried duck, steak and kidney pudding, fish, vegetarian and lots more. We were served promptly and food was hot on arrival, additional sides we had forgotten were delivered quickly without trouble. We had a couple of ciders and two mains all just over £40 which is pretty good in today's world for an afternoon out. Excellent country pub find a stone's throw from the river. The car park is just opposite the old English pub across the road.

We were made to feel very welcome at the Malt Shovel. The menu was good for meat eaters but had only one vegetarian option which was a burger. There were about six additional items on the specials board, of which two were vegetarian. See the attached photos of our meals, which were very good in both quality and quantity. The only disappointment was not having any room for a dessert, perhaps just as well because choosing one from the list would have been really difficult! ?

No dogs allowed. Very strange vibe. I ordered apple pie and tea, after a walk. Possibly my worst dessert ever, definitely one of them at least. Avoid food there would be my suggestion. Maybe nice for a drink though.
