How can you share something that is so much more than an experience. A place that is someone's home. Have you read The Great Divorce? This home that you're invited into is more solid than anywhere else I've been. It is more real. There is more grief, more frustration, more love, and more joy than any other place I know.

The Manor is not perfect. It is an old, cold house, filled with broken but beautiful people. We all come from different places, with different backgrounds. But what we all have in common seems to be that we need something. Something more than what we've been offered before. Be that rest, answers, loving attention, or a structure that will hold us while we think through our next steps. In the midst of the brokenness there's a willingness to be open and curious about others and their journey.

This place is somewhere with immense depth and profound discussions, but also of simple, down to earth living. You'll be cleaning toilets while telling how you heard of L'Abri, and what your family background is like. You'll have study time where you read about something your tutor has recommend (or maybe you'll grab a copy of some good fiction to dive into). At lunch you might discuss the significance of being bodily creatures, whether trans-humanism will make us less human, or what love actually is. Then you'll do dishes, make jokes, and possibly create your own improvised dishwashing musical number. You'll have community and solitude. You'll cry and laugh. It's just life, but more intense and intentional.

What can I say, this is the place I finally found shelter, love, and meaning. The people working here treated me as a human, and that in turn made me more human.

Wonderful place of Christian community that can be visited from a few days to a term, filled with hospitality, discussions and space to ask life's big questions.

Best place to think through difficult life decisions. I’ve been to retreat centers across the US, and in Switzerland, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Italy - and this place is number one. The people who run this place have something really special going on. This program really relies on you showing up to be with the community. If you engage with the community, while also spending time alone in reflection, you will get so much out of your time. I have made numerous life long friends here. Be vocal with your tutor, they will really guide you. Once you are booked, get excited!

Friendly welcome, but that only goes so far when there is no central heating and often no warm water for showers.
Visited recently but had to cut my visit short due to the conditions. If you have mould allergies or sensitivity, be warned! Has not changed much in the 25 years since my last visit.
What is great about the place is the freedom to discuss and explore topics relating to the Christian faith. Unfortunately this can be overshadowed by an American view of the world which is not always helpful.

Love this genuine Christian community. Really living it out. Often go here for Friday night lectures and sometimes visit for the day. Lunchtimes involve a thoughtful discussion of a topic raised by one of the students
