Attractive, peaceful park with some genuine historical interest, including the waterfall and a faithfully restored Victorian urinal. Detailed information boards providing lots of history about the area, as with many other points of interest in Great Ayton.

Pleasant place for a stroll and meander. Various benches to sit on and useful information boards provided too. Nice to hear the sound of the water while you take a breather or have a picnic. It also has the last of the Victorian urinals in it, you can't miss it as it is bright red. The urinals were erected after the introduction of underground sewers in the 1890's. (That's sewers as in toilet, not as in needle n thread sewing bee, ha.) There is a plaque to 5 miners from Ayton who were killed in action in WW1. The plaque stands on a piece of railtrack from the mine. In the field alongside Waterfall Park, you can still see the remains of the Medieval ridge and furrow drainage system. Goes without saying, plenty of wildlife, though there is, regrettably, a lot of food and drink rubbish in the River Leven. Could do with a litter pick. I saw a white egret, which was very exciting and a couple of families of mallards and some baby moorhens too. Suggitts Ice Cream shop is only over the road too, so here is a pleasant place to sit to eat your purchase.
