I was very apprehensive about going to this place, because well I had just come out to my boyfriend. When we arrived I could barely talk and Jon took us in for an appointment.Jon is very nice and accepting of all people. He meets you where you are at mentally. I have nothing but respect for what Jon does for the LGBTQ+ community. I would recommend this place to everyone who needs a listening ear.

This place used to be helpful to the community and those in need of help under their old director Lanie, since she left and Jon took over this place has gone downhill. I've seen many others who agree that Open arms is not doing enough for the community. Furthermore Jon has actively turned away people in need of support including my best friend/roommate. Would not recommend at all. Actions against this sham of a non profit must be taken.

I was confused about the LGBTQ+ community and my orientation until me and my girlfriend went to Jon. Jon is really good about encouraging my strengths and helping me work on my weaknesses. Jon is also open minded when it comes to having conversations about multiple sexualities and gender identities.

June 2nd I requested documents that I’m legally allowed to see. Jon and Tammy denied my LEGAL request. I stood in open arms, spoke my disgruntled opinions about the organization, hoping to have an actual productive conversation about the community they claim to help. It fell on deaf ears. It is now June 14th and the executive director STILL has not reached out and responded to my inquires. I was then asked to remove my previous review, as well as have others who shared my feelings remove them. This non profit has gone down hill, especially if they can’t handle opinions of the community, and hide.

I would not recommend this place for a teenager looking for a support group. Staff, particularly Jon, turned his back on my daughter when she was looking for support. No reason was given and all he could say was “it’s confidential”. Jon plays favorites & decides who he wants & doesn’t want to attend the teen support groups without realizing the harm it causes. Instead of being a support to the community this place has turned into a detriment.

I was begging for help in tears after they ignored me while living in domestic violence shelter and after, when I was rendered homeless from my horrendous assault by caregivers. When I went to emergency room for internal bleeding someone was with me for an hour or 2, then told me they had to leave. Everything in texas failed me. No investigation, perpetrators were friends with sheriff so I was labeled a liar even tho I had suffered broken neck, pelvis. I wear a diaper and I'm not old. I have permanent nerve damage that affects me everyday,. I'm ashamed for everyone, regardless of their title, who threw me away like a piece of trash. If I could give less than one star I would.

Wonderfully supportive, warm, and welcoming group. Recent name change to Open Arms. Doing such an amazing job that they are looking to expand to a new building to offer even more help!
