Great Sunday roast here 2022 and an even better one in 2024
Best mash ever! It’s not often you get mash on a pub roast and even when you do it’s always tasteless and lumpy!
Lovely pub great food! nice sav NZ (when you know you know) beer garden is lovely
They also offer a full menu on a Sunday not just roasts
Loving the flowers on the outdoor tables

We stayed in the Highfield nearby , but fancied some real food , not the posh stuff in the hotel. We found The Old Star and it was also recommended by the lady in the hotel.
It was really easy to find, and o street parking outside was easy too.
We were greeted and seated straight away, though we did reserve a spot.
The staff were all brilliant and very attentive. We got our drinks in no time and we picked our food from the menu.
There was a few Vegetarian and vegan choices from the menu, which being Dairy intolerant sometimes helps.
The food was fantastic, all well cooked , hot and enough to fill us both.
The only downside is it is a pub, and it was quite noisy, there was also someone wanting to fight people in another room.
All in all, we had a good night with great food. The price was very reasonable too.

What a lovely pub ?

We stopped here whilst passing through on our way back from Flamborough, it's a traditional, rustic country pub, with a good selection of ale at the bar.

The staff were accommodating and friendly. It's recommended to book, but we managed to get a table without booking.

The food was really good, and the whole family enjoyed it. The waiting time was a bit slow, but again worth it for the quality coming out of the kitchen.

Toilets were clean and tidy and access is good for all abilities.

The garden area was quaint and in full sun around 3pm. Not enough benches with umbrellas, so we decided to sit inside.

There were a lot of flies in the bar, due to the warm weather, and due to the sealed windows meant they congregated around us and our food. We didn't let it put us off and enjoyed the meal all the same! I'm sure we were just unlucky on our visit. Hence why I've ignored this and given the place an epic 5 star.

We'll definitely visit again! With less flies around, we'd have had pudding! The crumble sounded great ? - until next time ?

We have just had the most amazing meal absolutely delicious service was very friendly and served beautifully looked really appetising well presented on the plates would highly recommend for any occasion. When I asked to speak to the chef at the end of the meal to tell him how much we enjoyed it that was not a problem and he really appreciated what I had to say

Called in here whilst on holiday.
We read the reviews beforehand, so we went a little out of our way to try it. So glad that we did as it was well worth the visit. It was a Sunday, late afternoon and we were given a Sunday lunch menu. Nether of us fancied a "dinner" so we opted for the steak and ale tray bake with chips. What a fabulous choice! The pie was one of the best I've had, both the pastry and the meat melted in your mouth. The chips were real, homemade chips!!!! How often do you get that these days? They are nearly always frozen rubbish. I opted out of the veg, but my husband got a separate dish of mixed veg and there was a good selection of about 4/5 different veggies.
Would I recommend this place, absolutely! 100%
If we ever find ourselves in the area in the future, we will definitely be revisiting.
Keep up the good work Old star ?

We were staying in the area and had seen the pub and the good reviews... We walked down with the dog just for drinks...it was really busy as there was a funeral party on and a darts match... It was a Tuesday tea time so we were surprised... We found a seat in one of the 3 areas, next to a roaring fire....we were both drinking wine...which was a reasonable price... lovely friendly staff and a good atmosphere... We returned for drinks again on the Wednesday evening...it was really quiet...this didn't bother us.... lovely girl behind the bar....who was friendly and helpful and chatting with us... Will definitely return here if I'm staying in the area again.. ☺️

Xmas dinner 2023 was fantastic so we came back. Unfortunately it felt like they were cashing in on last year's success. The food was very average, the staff we're very polite but rushing around and had no time to check in or at any point ask if anyone wanted a drink. We we're stuffed out back in a separate area, away from the busy and atmospheric pub, 3 large family groups, no Xmas decorations or anything that made it feel homely at all. Staff rushing in and out leaving the door open every 3 minutes. For £80 per person it was very poor. It is clear that the motive was to get as many bums on seats as possible. My wife said her lamb was nice, she wants that stressed
