Our first time to an RSPB reserve having joined up this year and were not disappointed. We visited on a weekday in August. Weather was glorious which obviously helped.

Beautiful area to walk around with several large hides. Paths are well kept and staff are absolutely lovely.

Plenty of wildlife on show... We saw herons, cormorants, moorhens and lots of ducks. Also loads of enormous dragonflies.

Cafe is not too bad and they have a nice shop also. Spent about 3 hours there and quite easy to get round all the hides in that time. We are not serious birdwatchers so I can imagine you can easily stay all day if you wish.

Great RSPB reserve with plenty of hides and different habitats. As always, the volunteers are helpful and friendly.

We’ve visited twice now. Once in autumn to see the starling murmurations and this week for a general bit of birding

The cafe is excellent if pricey and facilities including parking are good. Visitors on public transport, bikes and on foot get an incentive in the cafe - see photos. . It’s a just short walk from the Silverdale train station if you’re visiting by train.

Nice RSPB shop too.

Sadly, they have stopped doing breakfasts at the cafe in favour of sandwiches and an expensive add-on selection.
Very impressed with the hides, huge and clean and one with padded seating too
We timed it very badly and only got to see a few common sightings over the 4 hides.
Not much husbandry getting done in places and lots of stuff obscured by 8' reeds and grasses. Tiring 5 hour round trip I won't be doing again in a hurry.

Most tedious day ever.. full of people with cameras suited only to Daily Mail journalists and telescopes that NASA would be jealous of! Any noise more than 0.01 decibels is met with Shhh from the loyal band of "spotters" we saw some ducks!! Avoid like the plague unless you enjoy similar activities such as watching paint dry!!..

Started visiting more and more RSPB spots as they are such amazing walks and wildlife experiences. Spotted deer, osprey, marsh harrier and loads more along the way. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff helped us sign up to become a member and support this brilliant team with what they do for nature.

An absolutely wonderful reserve. Marsh harriers, osprey, and a myriad of other beautiful birds in a fantastic setting. Staff are hugely knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic. We were lucky enough to see a male marsh harrier passing food mid-air to a partner, and an osprey fly low, hover then plunge to catch a fish. Spectacular.
As well as the bird life, it was great to see an array of wild orchids in mid-June.

A great place to visit for all ages. Great birdlife and well maintained feeders with brilliant birdlife at feeders and beyond. Got to see a marsh harrier food pass and a brief view of bittern. Nice! From BTO Bird Camp 2024 England. Photos are collective and from all campers
