They ask intrusive questions about your health and then reject you for having savings for essential medical treatment, even after you explain to them that the NHS is broken. Anti-disabled service, but then again, that's pretty representative of the UK legal system.

They asked you to provide tons of documents including your bank statement and legal documents then they did not even read it properly. I am the one who has been owed wages even less than a hundred pounds and I asked to withdraw the case but the defendant made a counterclaim for so called emotional loss of a thousand pound. All I want is a free barrister to represent me in court and I am not asking for my wages anymore and all the time I worked for that shamlesss employer was
Less than a thousand now he asked me for a thousand and I did not even asked him to pay me back the ages he owed me.

Then this advocate case officer asked me to send her millions of documents then rejected my application on the ground of I asked for £75 is too small. I did not asked for £75. It’s another way around and the defendant asked for unreasonable to thousand pounds.

I complained the advocacy and contract this officer but there is no reply for more than 3 months.

This is totally ridiculous and why should people find this useless charity

I’ve read some of the reviews here, and my personal experience is quite different. (Used the service twice!)

I was allocated a caseworker who helped me sort through the horrific documents needed by court and allocated the barrister. It was all dealt with professionally and with efficiency.

However the most praise should be for the barristers allocated, I had two! YPH was brilliant. She grasped my case very well and is a safe pair of hands. She was professional throughout and was able to grasp fully the nuances of the case and was fair and reasonable in all her arguments. She actually cared about the case, which to all intents and purposes is what truly matters to the end user.

I’m grateful that such a service does exist, it is essential and helps a great many who cannot afford legal representation.

Kudos to Advocate for accepting to take up my nephew's case at the last minute. My nephew has Downs Syndrome and his immigration application was initially refused.

The previous lawyer who was representing us dropped the case at the appeal stage, leaving us in the middle of nowhere. I was very frustrated and had lost hope but decided to contact Advocate and liaised with Sophie. It was initially difficult to get a rep due to closeness of the hearing date.

All thanks to Barrister J.K, who stepped in at the last minute and requested court to adjourn the case, that was the beginning of our success story. Honestly, words fail me to describe how she marvellously took over and did an amazing job. She was an Angel sent from God.

Thanks so much Advocate for the good work

Sophie helped me find a barrister for my hearing. She was very helpful and responsive. The young barrister they assigned to me was an absolute star. He nailed every detail of my case very quickly and he won the case easily. I m eternally grateful to Advocate and Sophie for helping me out in this very difficult position.

OK service considering their limited resources. However, i think realistically you are not likely to receive help.
Although my application was accepted they never found a barrister willing to take on the case and they also never told me they hadn't found anyone, communication simply stopped.. I ended up representing myself.
When I asked for help with paperwork after judgement (i.e.help with putting together paperwork for a follow up hearing ) I was told that request was rejected. They felt as I had represented myself so far I could do the rest myself as well.
In their defence they are probably flooded with applications and individual's chances of getting any assistance is probably more than remote.

Worked my case for almost 2 years. I was very happy with their efforts in seeking out advice for my benefit, which included several chats with Barristers who were very helpful, direct and honest.

I would highly recommend Advocate to all and anyone who is in legal difficulties and seeks genuine, honest advice and assistance.

Nothing but praise for them, to be honest.

Organisation is good in principle, but telling you we approve you but cant find anyone, possibly up to one day before, is too much stress. It then becomes awful for those who can't afford help. Those who cant afford it basically are denied justice or fair legal representation. Overall I think the service doesnt work to help those most in need. I wasted so much time on the application getting the referral to them and the documents they wanted on another application only to be refused. Must be a better way to help people, without causing severe distress even on approved applications.
