Went here to see my son box. The place is in the middle of absolutely nowhere, which is why we stayed over after driving into Hull on the Saturday. Got a 9 quid taxi into the place on the Saturday night after a quick bite in town. Very small room for the boxing with not enough seats with the usual big crowd, so we stood for the duration apart from the last couple of fights after others left. The makeshift bar didn't serve any properly cold cans of beers and the wine was dire. These issues are not the fault of the venue, but a warning to anyone attending relatively big events there. The boxing finished about midnight and it was impossible to get a taxi back into town. I rang almost 25 numbers listed on Google, with over half of them seemingly owned by one company, and about 90 per cent didn't answer as they were busy and the rest said they had no drivers for hours! This is one of the biggest cities in the UK, and they don't have Uber as a back-up either. We ended up walking back to town in the rain which took us an hour and 15 mins, as there were no buses down Beverley Road then either. Incidentally, all the community centre notices in the place are written in caps by a seemingly angry caretaker called Keith, which at least gave us a little laugh during the evening. There's even one written in 2009 about keeping the heat in by not opening doors in the winter, and not to put it on in winter if u need to open doors - which was obviously being ignored 13 years later. Went clubbing at 2am when we got back to town, soaking wet.
