I regret having to write this, but Muslim Hands has completely let me down. I once trusted this charity, donating to have several wells built and even recommending them to friends and family. However, my recent experience has been heartbreaking and deeply frustrating.

In February 2022, I donated for a community well in memory of my grandad. The website stated it would take 9–12 months, but over a year later, I still hadn’t received any updates. I contacted the charity repeatedly, but they kept fobbing me off with empty promises and excuses. When I first called, I was met with vague responses. They told me they weren’t sure why the report hadn’t been sent and promised to pass my query to the wells department, who would get back to me. I was understanding—delays happen, and I wasn’t in a rush. However, weeks went by, and I still didn’t receive anything. I called again, only to be told the same thing.

Weeks turned into months, and I found myself constantly chasing them for an update. Every time I called, I was given generic assurances, but no one took my concerns seriously. I had to explain the situation repeatedly, and it became clear they were brushing my complaints under the carpet.

After months of frustration, I demanded to speak to someone in charge. I was put through to someone named Maheda in the wells department. She assured me she would investigate the issue and contact the team in Niger, where the well was supposedly being built. She promised to call me back by the end of the week. Unsurprisingly, no call came, and I had to chase her again. When I finally got through, she claimed poor weather conditions had delayed the team in Niger from travelling to the well to take photos for the report. This excuse had already been given to me previously, but I chose to believe her and waited again. Yet again, no report was sent, and no follow-up calls were made. This process of broken promises and constant chasing dragged on for over a year.

Eventually, I contacted the charity through their WhatsApp number and sent a detailed email outlining my frustrations, asking for a callback. They apologised and asked for my details, which I provided, along with a specific time for someone to call me. Unsurprisingly, no one called back, and I had to reach out again.

I was then put in touch with Minaz, another member of the wells department, who listened to my concerns and tried to assist. He told me he would contact the team in Niger immediately and get back to me. He did call me back the next day and informed me that the well was complete, and the report would be sent by the following week. Finally, I felt like I might be making progress. But, once again, the promised report never arrived.

After more chasing, Minaz sent me an email containing a photo of what he claimed was the name plaque for the well. To my shock, the plaque had the wrong name and year (2021 instead of 2022). It felt as though they had recycled a plaque from an old well to try and placate me. This was extremely upsetting and raised serious doubts about whether the well had even been built at all.

After months of chasing, when I finally received the "report" for the well, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The pictures in the report looked blatantly fake, and the well appeared photoshopped. The plaque still had the wrong year, confirming my suspicions that they were trying to deceive me. It became clear I had been lied to all along.

This entire experience has left me questioning the integrity of this charity and has left me both heartbroken and disgusted. I feel betrayed as my donation was made in honour of a loved one, and the lack of transparency and accountability is appalling. I will never donate to Muslim Hands again and urge others to research carefully before supporting. It’s horrifying to think how many other people they may have lied to and how many donations might not have been used for their intended purpose.

Muslim Hands, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Lying to donors and mishandling charitable funds is unforgivable!

I wish I could rate Muslim hands charity 0. I paid for a tube well in 2021 and all now I did not receive a video. They sent pictures but it looks very fake. I can’t believe you’re a charity and scamming people. Let me attach the fake picture. My intentions were pure for this Tube well. Allah will question you guys in the after life.

Been using the charity for many years after some online research "Muslim hands charity rating" and seeing generally higher ratings compared to average charities.

More than 5 water charities with reports and pictures of plaques in multiple countries received.

More than 10 orphans with regular reports and informed of any changes to circumstances.

Other one-off initiatives seem to have delivered all the promises.

Apart from this, quite responsive across the years by email or phone..

While I cannot attest to the governance and internal workings of the charity, in comparison to others I have experienced in UK and abroad they seem to be one of the top in terms of charity delivery

I have waited nearly a year for my orphans report and i haven't received anything. I have called/emailed several different staff members on countless occasions, they alsways say they will notify the orphans team, finally after 7 months they said it's ready and they will send it off by E-mail and post, lo and behold Still haven't received anything. what a shame.

They contact me when it comes to new appeals and other promotions but when i have a single query it's not dealt with at all.

This organisation seems like a business more than a charity.

I do not recommend this company.

Extremely poor experience with them. THEY ARE NOT responding to emails and calls and not meeting their promises. I truly and honestly question their honestly now with handling people money as a charity. I will never use again. I would not recommend it, better choose more reliable and decent charity.

BEWARE - DO NOT DONATE!
After my late grandmothers passing, my family got together and raised £660 for a well to be built in her name in Gambia. We chose Muslim Hands since we wanted proof of where the money was going - we thought we would receive an impact report alongside a photo with a plaque of her name on the well. We received nothing of the sort, we enquired about the progress of the well after not hearing anything from them.We received a lazy response, yet again with no development on the well. After 3 years since her passing, we have not received any proof of a well being built. I was entrusted to choose a charity by my family and their hard-earned money has gone to waste. I am just warning anyone else looking to donate to a charity: PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE DO NOT DONATE HERE!
