Some people truely make a difference. They understand that we are "all bees in a hive" and that it is vital that we look after each other. This is especially so in difficult times and against a culture that sometimes drives immediate wants rather than needs.

I was privileged to be given the opportunity to volunteer on Christmas Day at Hope Street. Sheila and her husband plus many others worked so hard to make Christmas special for anyone who felt they wanted support or just a Christmas meal in great company.

I noted the generosity of individuals who called in to make quiet donations and, local businesses who also made massive contributions. These factors coupled with the kindness, empathy and Christian ethic of those who cooked, provided karaoke equipment, dressed as Santa giving out presents, waited upon tables, or just made people welcome was amazing and shows human nature is alive, well and abundant with goodness.

Hope Street is a family where everyone is given dignity, value and the joy of belonging.
Indeed, I am not sure who really benefited: those who attended the meal or me. I left with a tear in my eye knowing that there are those who care, especially when Christmas can be a time for ourselves and not others.

I would like to thank those who attended in any capacity for making the day so special and I would encourage anyone to volunteer. Hope Street is a beating heart of the community offering hope every day of the week.

I set out to make a difference but found that Hope Street had made a difference to me, one I will never forget.

Thank you.

Lovely cafe and coffee shop with groups to promote good mental health. Array of meals available (soups, sandwiches, curries, scouse and more). Usualky has carrot cake, chocolate cake, lemon drizzle or others available. Many made fresh that day. Barrista coffees, speciality & regular teas, hot chocolate, chai latte, cans and fruit juices available. Peer support sessions, some 1:1 sessions. Various events such as singalong sessions, gardening group, dementia support etc. Wheelchair access for entry and toilet. An inclusive atmosphere for all walks of life. Run by a combination of paid and voluntary staff. Friendly atmosphere. Open Monday to Saturday and some evenings. Check out specials on the day.
