had been vaguely considering doing the 10K Moonlight Walk in Basingstoke, but no one I asked was available to join me. By 8 pm, my daughter and I decided to go for it, bundled up in warm clothes. I wasn’t sure if my 10-year-old could handle the night walk, but we gave it a try.

When we arrived at Festival Place, the atmosphere was electric and buzzing. The entire area was lit up by the walkers, creating a magical scene. After registering, we bought some fun props like a light-up crown and sticker jewelry. In the restroom, there was a wonderful camaraderie—people dressing up, winking, and encouraging one another.

Festival Place became an impromptu fitness center as we warmed up before the walk. The vibe was fun, and even dogs joined in the excitement. When the countdown hit zero, the walk began. We felt supported the entire time by volunteers of all ages. Everyone was friendly, chatting along the way. My daughter kept saying, ‘I’m so happy!’

Even the fire engines joined in, flashing their lights and sounding their sirens in support. The energy was so uplifting, we barely noticed the 10K passing. Volunteers cheered us on, lighting the path, and random cars honked in encouragement. A special thank you to Charlie, who gifted my daughter a new light-up crown after she lost hers in all the excitement.

That night, success truly felt like it came in clusters—so many people and moments came together to make it beautiful. I saw Basingstoke in a new light—vibrant and alive.
