Can't thank the staff enough for the wonderful care they gave to my father.
Nothing was too much trouble and this gave the home a wonderful personal, home from home feeling.
Could not of chosen a better home for my father in his twilight years.
Thank you.

My mother has settled wonderfully at this home. The staff have been amazing and helped marvellously with her transition from her first awful experience at one on canvey island. We always leave perfectly confident that she is safe secure and well cared for She has been a resident since March and we have no issues at the moment Management have already had a review with us and are open and ready for feedback to deal with any issues.

Most of the staff are kind but are not given the time to care effectively.
Management make promises but do not see them through. For example, being told that your loved one would be reviewed so that they could have the correct care - protein drinks, or a visit from the Parkinsons nursing team so that the correct care could be given - NEVER HAPPENED.
I was also accused of moving my father from the main area of the home to his room each time I visited and I did not inform anyone when I had left...not true, he was usually already in his bed for the evening and all visitors had to inform staff that they were leaving because the establishment had codes to get in and out - visitors are not allowed to know the codes.
Most importantly, ensuring that the elderly are given regular fluid so that they do not become dehydrated. This only happens if they are mobile and can get it themselves. Unfortunately, my parents is no longer with us but feel he could be if carers were allowed to care. Those who we saw care for him, I would like to thank, they were sweet and formed good effective relationships that made my dad feel safe. I am sure if the management were to carry out their promises, make relatives feel welcome and get more staff then the place could be great.

Not advisable to send anyone to this home. My Nan has deteriorated in 4 months because of lack of basic care. Dehydrated constantly, not changed, the residents are left to get on with it while staff do paperwork. Never enough staff not their fault.Extremely worrying what is going on there.
Also, I witnessed a hungry resident asking for more food at lunch as he was still hungry, one of the carers giving out the food explained there was none left, meanwhile she was filling her mouth with chocolate eclairs that were meant for the residents. This was heart breaking and awful to watch as the man walked out of the room.

Mum there Aug to Nov had some awful experiences. Management are all talk. Carers are under pressure staff moral low due to low staff numbers. If we didnt put her in night clothes Mum left in day clothes over night till Dad went up to change. Residents not clean lots of them left soaked and soiled. Meds given late but signed against correct time i had a 3 hr argument about this with manager and was told this was normal practice. 8am meds given at 1pm i was told short staffed running late lot of residents to get to. Mum had a fall which i wasnt told about until i asked.Only good thing is the food. There are some lovely ladies that work there for a pittance i blame bad management for not ensuring there are enough staff and not checking things are working upstairs, theyre just forgotten. Now in hospital NOT RETURNING

My mum walked in this place, after 4 months carried her out on stretcher.needing hospital care ,fell over not reported.drasitically detoriated in this short time.
Carers there is not enough of them . ( due to bad managment ).
Carers rushed off feet dont have time for personal attention for residents .
If we would have known this WE WOULD NOT HAVE USED this place.
My poor mum is suffering so much now due to the neglect of oaklands.

Downstairs was lovely but upstairs always smelt very strong on urine . My nan died of sepsis after just 5 months in oaklands. Went in healthy and then died.. postmortam showed deep infected sores all over her body which i never saw under her clothes and the ones on her ankles which caused the sepsis and gangreen were bandaged up so i didnt relise how bad they was. That night she seemed confused i spoke to staff said she doesnt seem right he said shes fine part of old age i thought ok maybe shes tired as was late . Next day nurce found no pulse in legs the day after she took her last breath with me holding her hand.. i found 2 nurces lovely some of them not so nice speaking to her like a child. I asked for 3 months for new matress for sores which she never did get and the week she died she finaly got the chair raised up as i had been asking for ages because her feet started to swell bad. I also asked for a doctor . She had a few falls. Once i pushed the buzzer to check it worked as wasnt plugged in took 15 mins for anyone to come in. So if ur family member is not mobile or cant talk propoly dont send them here .. food always looked nice and hairdresser was great but at the end of the day i wish they had told me they had no medical training like they told me the day i collected her things. If i had known this i would have moved her in a heartbeat. She would still be here now if she was cared for better or sent to hospital when the sores got bad. 5 months thats all it took to kill her . Wish i had done more but its to late now. I wont ever make the same mastake again . We all get old one day and we all will need help one day so to the bad staff at this home one day u will be in the same boat my nan was in and there will be nothing u can do about it. The 2 good nurces u know who u are my nan liked u
