Brilliant hub for people who need help for food or a rest if you are homeless. I volunteer here and the team are lovely

I have been accused of swearing at the staff (I'm homeless). This is not true. I am a Muslim and on more than one occasion they have gave me pork. All that I did was, I spoke in an assertive manner to show the staff that I am not happy with what they did. They have taken it out of context and even banned me from getting take away food. All because that I stood up for myself and I wasn't rude, just assertive. I do not recommend this place for fellow Muslim brothers and sisters.

Staff can be very officious. I struggled to get a piece of tissue from them when my nose was running. Also there are some highly unpleasant clients, who barge into you, and expect you to apologise for their abysmal behaviour...

I go here a lot. The staff are very supporting and friendly. You can get two hot meals a day, and they have various activities throughout the week and you can do some voluntary work here also. The Porch has benefited me greatly and helped me through some tough and emotional times. I would be lost without The Porch.

Basically a soup kitchen / foodbank that serves chicken stew, and gives out a bag of food:

Chicken stew (cooked) 🐔🔥
Banana 🍌
Babybel cheese 🧀
Scone 🥟 with butter 🧈
Watermelon + melons 🍉
Orange 🍊
Chocolate / flapjack bar 🍫

Asked for a veggie alternative to chicken stew and they didn't have one, although understand they usually do (and they did offer me Tuna 🐟).

Was visiting with a friend who's fallen on hard times. Although I didn't need it, they very generously served me and were big hearted and kind-spirited in doing so.

I understand they will be charging £1 per person going forward, which is sad but fair. I made a donation and hope that the government (local and national) prioritises funding places like this going forward.

The Porch is a drop-in centre for the homeless and vulnerably housed. You'll find it in East Oxford. I visit this place fairly often and would happily recommend it to others in need.
