A beautiful river walk leading up to the Chapel, lovely sea and country views. Lots of interest for 2yr and 5yr olds and not too strenuous.
We parked at the swannery, a mile walk to the chapel (which felt less than that) then a visit to the swannery cafe and play area on the way back to the car.

I waited until midwinter to visit in order to avoid hordes of tourists! It was desolate and atmospheric, well worth the trek up in windy and chilly conditions. Slightly disappointed that English Heritage don’t appear to love the building as much as passers-by!

Slippery in sketchers.
Or any other propriety brand.
There's loads of red dye,in the small lane ,because of dog walkers allowing, their pooches to do their business.
The walk up too the chapel is steep, not many try.
If you are like me coming from a religious background you do get a sense of calm.
And I park in the village, and take my own thermos..
So for me it's a good day out for the price of a half gallon of diesel.

Stunningly beautiful place to walk, with a commanding view of Chesil beach. You can see Portland on one side and the southwest coasts on the other. The chapel is open if you'd like to go inside.

The chapel is almost like something out of a movie or video game. Coming back from Bridport there is a hill which gives the perfect view of the chapel, so we decided to have a look as it caught our eye being completely isolated on top of a hill.

It's quite a walk up, and apparently we took the steeper of the routes according to a local resident. But would still recommend proper walking attire if you are visiting.

We visited just after a storm so it was incredibly windy at the top of the hill where the chapel is located, and was a good respite to get inside.

There isn't a great deal to see inside as it's virtually a barren shell. But there are interesting signs giving the history of the place, and people have left notes and prayers in small alcoves.

St Catherines Chapel is a fantastic location even on a windswept cold day, It’s definitely worth the walk up the hill. 👍🏻

Chapel of St. Catherine situated on the top of a hill overlooking the village of Abbotsbury. You can't get there. You can only get there on foot from several directions. It is best to park your car in the village and go for a walk. It's really worth climbing this hill to see the view from there. Impressive chapel in a beautiful location. The door was open every time I was there. You can go inside and look around. Visitors leave prayers and letters there to loved ones who have passed away.

A lovely climb up to the Chapel via a stream and an ancient tree with rope swing. Front door should be closed behind you and I highly recommend testing out the acoustics . Wonderful views for miles. Parked for free at Abbotsbury Swannery and followed signs.
