Great visitor's centre... lovely views across the bay. If you ring the bell, providing there is not an incident, the watchkeepers are more than happy to show you round the tower and explain the vital work they do.

Hidden gem. Museum, information point, and book shop, on a tiny, cosy scale. Volunteers here are heroes, all. Do the climb up to Daddyhole Plain from the Meadfoot side, it's worth it, then follow the cliff path to the harbour. You'll thank me. (The opposite direction is much harder).

The National Coastwatch lookouts along our coasts have taken over from many original Coastguard stations but are now run solely by volunteers. Each officer of the watch is trained and there are certificates for different levels of ability. I visited this Torquay one recently which is atop Daddy Hole plain with long reaching views over Torbay and Lyme bay. It is an extremely well appointed Lookout with Telescopes, binoculars, CCTV for local areas, AIS, VHF and Radar. The officers I spoke to were most courteous and took time to explain about the Institution and daily expectations as in watch keeping and logging boats, ships and incidences. They are keen to show the public around and survive on voluntary contributions.
Pay them a visit, you won't be disappointed and when out in your boat call them on VHF Ch65 for a Radio check, for weather and tide info or to report marine happenings.

Fascinating Torbay history inside the NCI Torbay Coastwatch Visitor Centre. Bring a used book or donate money ~ it does require the help and support of the local volunteers and supporters of the station.
