Always love going into Manchester

Thank God for the Samaritans! Today I was terribly upset about unfair treatment which resulted in me now being barred from renting a home after my very pleasant landlord had explained why he needed to sell the house where I am now living.

The root cause of this imminent homelessness was the deliberate failure of the estate agent to pass on my written, legal notice of leaving the flat to my then landlady. She took me to court when I was on holiday abroad in August and knew nothing about it, resulting in demands for payment for the months after I legally left, and is now taking me to County Court. This action prevents me from moving on and my application to rent elsewhere is being rejected. Meanwhile the estate agent responsible for burying my letter of notice, instead of keeping his promise to forward it, thrives unpunished.

This morning I could not stop sobbing and yesterday was the same and the day before. I phoned the Sams just to hear a kind voice, not because I planned to end my life. This lovely person was so completely opposite to the villains who set me up for trouble, that I want to say "You are wonderful, and besides saving precious lives, you saved my sanity today." I can now think straight and get on with packing up and asking a friend for a temporary bed until the way ahead becomes clear.

It can't be easy being a Samaritan volunteer, but if you ever feel discouraged and weary, there must be thousands of people who have a story like mine, and most far worse. Your value is priceless. Thank you!
