I have volunteered with South London Cares for about 2 years now. I highly recommend them. People volunteer or join charities for different reasons, the approach and goals of SLC align perfectly with mine, and I thoroughly enjoy what I do with them. They have 2 main elements, "Love your neighbour" which is where you are paired with a person who you meet up one to one with every week, and then the socials side where you meet as a group with lots of other people. It's a great way to meet people and stay social.

Amazing charity that helps elderly people to stay connected throughout fun activities or a neighbor program. I have been a volunteer for 3 years now and couldn't recommend it enough. If you or someone you know want to meet new people and share a great experience this is the place for it.

I've volunteered here since 2018 and have so many happy memories because of it. I've helped people get the hang of their devices at tech workshops, visited a city farm, Buckingham Palace, done lots of chair yoga, learned Kandyan dance and so many other styles, have done a BSL workshop and visited galleries, museums. The list goes on. SLC have worked so hard to keep people connected during lockdown too, with lots of virtual clubs and telephone ones. No one is left behind.
The connection with people there is warm and genuine and the people that work for SLC are always friendly, compassionate with a cracking sense of humour to boot. I hope to be involved with them for many years to come.

If you are elderly or have an elderly person you would like to refer, be warned - this organisation is very "woke". Heaven forbid you use the "wrong" vocabulary from a previous era - you will be expelled until you apologise. Naturally, young volunteers have no concept at all of what it means to be old and can be quite patronising - while at the same time being smug, deluding themselves that they are helping their older neighbours, but being quite insensitive to the actual reality of their needs. Quite a complacent organisation.

Amazing charity who organise really friendly events. I have been to their fundraising events in the past and my sister has lots of fun volunteering at the social clubs with highlights being the cocktail club and writing club.
