Went with family on the Saturday before Christmas. Really enjoyed our visit, but it was a bit disappointing as a couple of the rooms were closed for refurbishment . The Christmas trees were amazing, as were the paintings 🖼 . Interesting to hear that some scenes were shot there for the film Napoleon.
We were really surprised to find we could go out into the town from the house. Had a great walk around Petworth, checking out the shops and cafes.

On a sunny day, it would have been a nice place to visit. Sadly, it was a dull damp day, and all the spring flowers in the woodland area, didn't want to show their brilliant colours!!! , never mind, another it could all change. But nice walk around the lake, sawthe deer and got a view if how big the house actually is.

Petworth House is interesting! Externally it isn't beautiful. Internally it has a large collection of paintings, only a few of which are my taste. But the grounds are wonderful - huge, full of ancient trees, deer and vistas.

We normally visit this National Trust location just to enjoy walks through the vast deer park, but as the weather turned very cold and damp we decided to check out inside the property. On previous visits most of it has been closed with only a couple of areas accessible for viewing, so check in advance if this is important to you. Also, if visiting the deer park during rutting season, be aware that the stags can get aggressively territorial!
