The Thought Foundation is an art space in Birtley and on the night we went they were recording a podcast for Heyartwhatsgood. There were guest artists speaking and there was a display by renowned artist Sophie Gatie. There is a bar/cafe there where you can get beers, teas and coffee and burgers etc. Highly recommended. Such a cool place.

This is a remarkably characterful place to visit.

I went with friends primarily to go to the café, which has good wholesome food, expertly prepared by friendly and helpful staff. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options available, but carnivores should not despair as meat dishes are also available. I'm reliably informed that the cakes are outstanding. I have multiple allergies, and the staff could not have been more helpful, and I actually had a choice of suitable items.

There is a small shop containing a number of ethically/locally produced products such as jewelry, wooden toys, books, colouring books, soaps, decorative items, etc, and I can see me going back to do a little Christmas shopping.

I did too much chatting with my friends to explore the gallery side of the establishment, but I would definitely be interested to have a look when I go back.

Thought Foundation is definitely a child-friendly place, with indoor and outdoor play areas. There seems to be a variety of interesting-looking classes/activities available for adults and children.
