It's ok for your everyday needs.
UK grocery shops are not great, and this is just your average shop.

Disappointing to lose the upstairs part. The ground floor seems a lot more cluttered now and not quite as open. The staff are brilliant, I’ve never met a frosty one, all eager to help. Manned tills seem to have the right amount of staff but I only shop off peak times. Parking spaces are numerous, there could be a few more Blue Badge spaces even in quieter times it can be difficult to find one. Fuel prices are good too. Located in a good place to both enter and leave, unlike the nearby Mayflower Tesco Extra which can be a total pain.

The first Tesco Extra in the UK, and it lives up to its name!

The shop has just undergone a major refurbishment (cafe is lovely, by the way.) so it’s a bit upside down right now for a while longer according to signs. The work really has changed the store (upstairs area is now inaccessible, cafe and clothing moved downstairs to a nicer looking area, all of the aisles have been changed to look more modern and easy to access, kiosk has been moved to the tills, bakery has had some new decoration, outside has been regenerated, windows installed in cafe.) All of this has made shopping a much nicer experience, and we have been shopping here for nearly 7 years.

Sadly, there is always a few downsides. Some of the aisles have been narrowed so they feel very cramped. The alcohol section is also very, very cramped and there’s a very strange smell that lingers in one aisle. The soft drinks area is still the same old design and even smaller than it was. Gents toilets used to be clean on my visits, but they were horrific today. Tissue blocked toilet and there was a foul smell. Staff remain as very nice people. Make sure you have a club card, saved £40 on shopping in one go!

I visited the store at 8.20pm this evening (Wednesday) and got what I went there for almost immediately. However, I then went to the kiosk at 8.35pm to buy a couple of scratchcards, but was told by the staff member behind the counter that I couldn’t because they were closing very shortly! Is this correct?

Dirty, grimy, mould on shelves and behind displays, new store layout same old management, expect long queues and people who don't want to work there, mouldy items put out on shelves, vegetables and fruit dropped and kicks across the floor and then put back on the shelf, staff too short to reach so they stand inside the fridges and freezers to reach, stepping on produce, vegetables, raw chicken.

Whole upper floor has been closed to the public, meaning there is less items now on shelves because of the slightly expanded choice or range of items, things quickly run out

Hygeine items placed on the floor or inches away from filth

People who have obviously not been trained either in security or in merchandising, shelves usually virtually empty except a few items dragged to the front to pretend they are full rather than gettingnew stock out

Seriously gone down hill since the refurb which was just moving shelves to expose permenant filth in the flooring and to paint the store the most unappealing shade of grey.

Stock now put outside of hat was the toilets, now inaccessible, and seriously unhygienic, store frequently suffers from sewage blockages and can be smelled around the bakery area

A convenient dump

I couldn't give nil stars but would of if I could. I recently tried to visit your store with my 98 year old mum. When requesting a wheelchair I was appalled to be told you only had one wheelchair in the whole store and I would have to wait until that was returned. Unfortunately we were not is a position to hang around so had to leave. I appreciate things do get stolen but why don't you take a deposit for a wheelchair and make more wheelchairs available. We have never had this happen at the Tesco on the A127 hear Wickford. Really disappointed with the service offered to disabled customers. One wonders if it is a ploy to keep disabled people out of your store!!

Came in to buy some plants but they are all nearly dead and as dry as a nun's fanny. Someone needs to water them or they will just be wasted.

The petrol station was in a state of disrepair. Nearly all of the pumps were out of fuel, and the pay-at-the-pump terminals were completely inoperative. The lack of communication about the situation was frustrating, and when I finally managed to fill up my car, the cashier informed me that the payment systems had unexpectedly gone offline. The entire experience was extremely disappointing and indicative of poor service.
