We booked the kitchen table to celebrate a first wedding anniversary. The service from the chefs was outstanding, and the FOH staff were lovely on our arrival too. |Massive thank you to the chefs, Joe, Joe, Michal and Charlie for organising our menu and for having amazing presentation and descriptions of the food. |The chefs worked as a team, well organised and well knit with lots of banter between themselves. |It was lovely for the rest of the party to be able to see what it's like behind the scenes as no one apart from myself had worked in or seen a kitchen environment before. ||Amazing experience on the kitchen table, highly recommend for parties of 4. ||Thank you all

We stayed for 2 nights on the Chatsworth Experience package - 2 nights, dinner on first night, breakfast and tickets to Chatsworth House. The hotel location was perfect, located in the centre of the village of Baslow and a short walk to Chatsworth House. The hotel has been decorated to a high standard, with interesting artwork and beautiful decor. The food was very good and service was excellent. Staff were helpful, friendly and professional. Access to house, gardens etc were included and we could visit as many times as we wanted during the stay. Chatsworth House is well worth a visit and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We were looking for a classy intimate hotel to hold our lunchtime wedding in September. Just a small affair for close family and friends and so we chose the Cavendish Hotel at Baslow and it was a great choice. |The location and surroundings are beautiful and everything went like clockwork with Adam orchestrating the wedding itself and the lunch afterwards. We were blessed with good weather and so it was a perfect day for us and all our guests. I would certainly recommend this venue for lunch or dinner or a romantic stay close to beautiful walks and scenery or in our case a wedding. Thanks to all the staff but especially Adam for making it such a special day.

We recently had a very enjoyable two night stay at the Cavendish, and it was a return visit. Improvements were evident. The refurbishments have been done well and the archive pictures are interesting especially as you don’t have to live with them. The location so close to Chatsworth is magnificent. The tasting menu in the Gallery restaurant was very good indeed and innovative with everything coming from within ten miles. The staff are very pleasant throughout. So why not quite an ‘excellent’ rating? On the Saturday evening the restaurant was struggling to keep pace with some dishes coming out late and overcooked. Perhaps the extended Garden Room and The Gallery are too big for the kitchens and the staff. Lounge space for residents is not generous. At this price level, excellence is expected.

This hotel feels a bit confused. We stayed two nights as a family on a trip to see Chatsworth and the beautiful surrounding areas. The recent renovations are well done and the rooms are very comfortable. The only drawback of the rooms are the bathrooms which still feel in need of an update with crusty bathrooms and a good scrub (there was lots of mould around the shower door in the bath). The communal areas are very well decorated, cosy and elegant. We dined in both restaurants and had breakfast on both days. The major drawback of this hotel and the restaurants is the service. The staff are very friendly (particularly the porter Tim who was wonderful and the sommelier who was fantastic!). However some of the restaurant staff seem to be run off their feet trying to accommodate the guests while others are very slow and seem very confused. Very little attention is paid to guests and we were required to really push to try grab the waiting staff's attention. Breakfast on both days arrived cold and not as requested after about 45 minutes of waiting for our breakfast orders. Little things seem to be missed in this hotel, from nibbles for drinks to vanity sets. Most minor requests were met with either an overly defensive response or confusion. The rooms are surprisingly expensive considering the level of service and amenities. The impression we got from this hotel was that the appearance (the recent renovations) did not match the rest of the hotel; it feels a bit like they did these renovations and felt this would be a cosmetic fix which would allow for them to charge more for the food and rooms, however they have not trained the staff appropriately or included the small touches to justify the prices of both the rooms and the food/drinks. We left feeling almost as if we should have found a room above a pub or an airbnb!

Very disappointed. We asked for a separate shower and were given a wheelchair friendly “spacious” room in the coachhouse. Sorry but one worn out uncomfortable armchair is not good enough in a hotel room at this premium price. Similarly no drawers or shelves so we were living out of our suitcase. We always stay in high end hotels but this one was disappointing. We raised our disappointment but, frankly, gained the impression that we were just moaning. Generally there was no impression of customer care - quite the reverse. We do have fairly common allergies but felt they were a nuisance too. One night we arrived in the restaurant at the appointed 7.30 but our main course arrived at 9 - without comment. There are two restaurants taking food from one kitchen and one night we asked for a dish (steak) from the other one while the other chose a dish from the main menu. We were told that this was not possible - are we supposed to sit in different restaurants? Common sense did prevail and we were told it was ok because we had caught the chef in a good mood! No customer focus.

What a lovely experience! We ate in the garden room and sampled some new delicacies for starters (smoked eel Caesar salad) and firm favourites (prawn cocktail). Mains included Moules Frites, dressed crab and skate wing. All finished off with crumble and Lemon Verbana.|All four of us loved our meals, the atmosphere, the lovely wine and the beautiful surroundings. We will certainly be visiting again soon.

A fabulous location on the boarders of Chatsworth, recently renovated with a homely decor and eclectic mix of art and furnishings. |Unfortunately our evening was spoilt by a rushed service from both sommelier who although knowledgeable was too busy to engage. The waitress argumentative and cold when told about a dish that arrived when my wife had finished her meal. No apology . We were celebrating coming back to the uk after years as expats as well as our anniversary of which no mention. |However the food is perfectly cooked the menu focused and the wine cellar a good spectrum for all tastes. |We give the benefit of the doubt but would ask for the service to be at the right level and ensure customers paid attention to, we left in silence no one to bid farewell
