Delightful half timbered 15th century church in a peaceful spot on the riverbank, with views of the nearby hills.
The white wattle and daub walls, wooden beams and steep steps up to the gallery give the church a unique character, making it one of the most memorable I've visited.
The church is a remarkable survivor, having originally been built without foundations. When the riverbank became unstable, the whole building was raised using jacks, enabling foundations to be installed beneath. The structure is held together using only wooden fixings.
There's roadside parking right outside the churchyard.

Beautiful black and white timber church on the banks of the Vyrnwy. Well worth a visit but please donate to keep this place going.

Such a beautiful church and one of the oldest timber framed in this country built without a single nail and only wooden pegs. Dating back to Saxon times this church is truly beautiful with some lovely features inside. There are very steep steps inside the church leading to the top floor so take care if going up there. Lovely peaceful setting right next to the river Vyrnwy this is definitely worth coming to see

Not far from home is Melverley a little village that covers quite a big area with houses farms etc with quite narrow country roads and because the ground around is low with two well known rivers as neighbours some parts are well known when we have plenty of rain to become a unique floodplains.
It’s a beautiful place to visit and also has a very beautiful timber frame Church which is very well known and famous because of its History.

Amazeballs. I mean I'm biased as I love old churches but this one is a real gem. It was made of real Jesus. I could almost smell the history. Definitely pop in if you are in the area. They even have polite ghosts who told me to "please leave" usually its just "get out" this or "nob off" that. Kudos for manners. Extra kudos for not making me cry.

First visited melverley in 1966 withy life long friend Peter lavender and his wonderful dad George and there family one of them is buried in the grave yard Billy lavender . George took us all young lads fishing there every summer holidays from school it was a special place and always will be in my heart. The pub there the tontine was the hub of the village and I've got wonderful memories of it to this day and since1966 I've always each year had a few days fishing in melverley and always will return till I can't anymore then it's the turn of my ashes for ever. It's a shame the pub is no longer open but there's always hope but the church will be there forever hopefully it's such a brilliant place to be enjoyed by all to wonder it's majesty.
