Stunning quarry - absolutely empty when I visited on a Saturday in early March. Incredibly peaceful. I’d imagine the lake would be very refreshing in the height of summer. Very easy, level walk from the car park just off the main road (about 15 mins). Highly recommended for peace and quiet. It’s also good for scrambling and climbing, altho I’d imagine you’d definitely need proper equipment to scale the steep quarry walls.

Great place to explore and stop for a picnic. Popular with dog walkers and hikers. Stunning views of the quarry and area as it’s a high up location. Good easy access along the old disused rail track. Great for wild swimming during the summer.

Great walk from Princetown following the old track up to the quarry after 200 hundred years there is not many buildings standing but the pond is there with the deep quarry full with water used in the summer for wild swimming. Nice spot for a picnic with views all around the moor.

Easily accessible from either four winds car park about a 30 min walk or from. Princetown 45min walk. You can walk all around inside the quarry, there is a small lake in the centre. There are several ruins of buildings to the right as you approach the quarry from four winds. There is what appears to be a smaller quarry again on the approach from four winds. A drive down the road takes you to Merivale and the standing stones.

Had a fabulous walk here today 3 hours in the most glorious weather ( freezing but bright sun) absolutely recommend this area and will be returning soon. Thoroughly enjoyed some homemade soup in the car and people watching afterwards.

Lovely views on this mostly level walk. If you walk around the top of the quarry it is a bit of a climb but you don't need to do that if you have mobility problems you still get great views on the trail out.

A beautiful hidden away gem. Path leading all the way from the car park. About a 15 to 20 walk. Beautiful views and a great place for a picnic.
