I can't tell you what it's like now, or even if it's still open. I visited there many years ago (34 years to be exact) to attend the 'Tensing' youth choir. I'm from Sheffield but a lot of Tensing groups used the YMCA. I have good memories. I think they were a place that helped people get through hard periods. Something we all need from time to time.
