I was called for “safeguarding” as I am enrolled on to a 4-day business course this week. Prior to the call, I had to fill out a form which asked me personal questions regarding safeguarding which were compulsory to answer. Btw, I’m 28 years old.

Someone I’ve never spoken to before called and asked me within 2 mins of speaking to tell them about very personal challenges I’ve gone through. I was not rude on the call, but I did say multiple times that I only want to focus on the business aspect and I am not comfortable speaking about my childhood but I was still asked questions after saying that. I was also told that if the safeguarding team want to know more, I will be asked again.

I’m not sure how this scenario is meant to make me feel safe. In fact, it had the opposite effect – it has ruined my vibe for the day and I feel uncomfortable about attending the course, whereas I was very excited before.

I was called with no information on what the call was regarding. Some preparation on what the call was about and the option on if I want to have this kind of call or not would’ve been appreciated.

Dredging up people’s past traumas can be very dangerous, hence why there are 4-year therapy courses on how to do this in a safe and effective way and equip people with the tools to not let it impact them negatively if they do speak about it.

Also, my call ended with “sorry if it felt invasive but that’s just the way it is” which shows a MAJOR lack of training in how to address sensitive matters.

I decided to escalate this and give some feedback because it’s dangerous to bring up peoples past traumas and I was flat out ignored.

I will not be attending their course because of how unprofessionally this situation has been handled. Would NOT recommend.
