A place to be still. They offer a place to stay, a path with help based on being available and staying and being vulnerable so we can be with Jesus as we go in and out of life’s stages. There is also a sister house in Normandy France which is nearer for me via St Malo. The photos are from nearby At Bamborough and Lindisfarne. There is a place of rest and quiet here; it may even lead to prayer. Thank you for being there and opening for so many

A peaceful, welcoming Christian community at Nethersprings

This retreat venue was purpose built by the land owners on one side (Acton House) who also own the farm on the other side. Extremely comfortable, modern double rooms (en suite) open onto a courtyard accessed from the main entrance lobby.

On one side of the lobby is the large meeting room fitted out mostly with comfortable settees. Off that is a library. The other side leads to the dining room. Guests are invited to make themselves drinks, and use any of the arts and crafts materials kept there.

About 70 yards away is a small chapel and a walled garden. Day visitors are very welcome to this mother house of the international community whose faith they describe as firm in the centre and fuzzy at the edges. They see life and faith as paradox and mystery (heretical questioning encouraged). Most of their teaching is informed by the Celtic Saints.

Generous, welcoming and warm-hearted, this example of new monasticism includes too much to cover here. They are closed one weekend a month. Consult their website to see what's on.

A very special place indeed. Staff are extremely hospitable and surroundings are stunning. Plenty places in the grounds to pray & worship alone or as a group. Highly recommended on your spiritual journey with God. Will definitely be returning next year ?
