I stayed here with 2 friends for a weekend walking in Eskdale. We have stayed in 6 other youth hostels and this is by far the best. It is immaculate, the common rooms are spacious, clean and tidy and our private bedroom was spacious and spotless. Breakfast was superb. All credit to the warden and team running this superb hostelry. |The location is fabulous and there is lots of parking space. We will definately be back!

I had a lovely stay at this YHA. Tucked away in one of the most peaceful and scenic parts of the Lake District, it’s perfect for anyone wanting to explore the fells or just disconnect and enjoy nature. The atmosphere was incredibly friendly and welcoming. It’s family friendly too.

The staff were kind and helpful. The hostel itself was clean and cosy. The staff do a deep clean daily. I especially loved the communal areas, which made it easy to meet other travellers. As well as a cafe, they have a self catering kitchen stocked with pans, cutting boards, knives, cutlery and anything you could ever need while cooking. The views from the hostel were stunning, and there are some beautiful trails that start right from the doorstep.

Nice place around the hostel and for a walk. There is a waterfall at the top of the mountain and some of the way is too narrow and you have to climb the stairs without the support. The whole hostel can be booked and you can utilize a full hostel.
The road hard knot pass is a bit scary but thrilling. But you cannot use it when the weather is bad / snow conditions .

This is a fantastic hostel. It's in a beautiful location and right next to Hardknott Pass which is considered as Britain's wildest drive!
The service is as always top notch. Mick is so helpful and friendly. We walked up to the waterfalls and the Hardknott Roman Fort which were not too hard walks. We'll definitely go here again! 🙏🏾😍

The place itself is absolutely lovely! From the outside to the inside, it’s cozy and perfect for clearing your head. However, a major downside is the limited hours of the food canteen. With no shops nearby and only one bar, the kitchen’s opening hours (around 15:00 to 17:30) are very inconvenient. Many people return from hikes around 20:00 or later, leaving them with no chance to get a meal unless they bring their own food. While we had our own supplies, it would’ve been great to enjoy something warm, instead of canned food. I know others faced the same issue.

As for the internet, it wasn’t a big deal for me since I had a friend to play cards with or a book to read. However, beyond that, there’s not much to do, and the WiFi is so poor that you can’t even stream a TV series. If internet access is important, I’d suggest heading to the nearby pub, where the connection is much better.

Another wonderful stay at a YHA hostel, this time at Eskdale. A little jewel of a place, a haven at the end of the valley. Lovely, comfortable stay & beds & bathroom facilities, lovely staff, lovely food & drink. What more can one ask for. I will be back. The staff are / were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning.

Friendly staff, decent food, clean communal kitchen, showers and toilets, good beds and rooms—overall, good, but take a plug socket board. The Wi-Fi was extremely ropey, and there was 0 connection in the dorms.|I also really wish there were mugs 😆 instead of tiny coffee cups to make your own drinks. It is perfectly located for cyclists wanting to do Hardknott and more crazy climbs.

Stayed here for 2 nights and it exceeded our expectations. The rooms were adequate (ours, room 10, was quite small) but it did the job. The kitchen was stocked well with equipment and we ate evening meals here both nights and they were lovely and good value for money. The staff we came across were absolutely lovely. Especially K who was knowledgeable, chatty and lovely to have a conversation with. All the staffs humour and professionalism shone through. We would definitely return.
