This is a great place to stay... we hired the whole hostel for a friend's birthday. Excellent location with an 8 mile walk around a massive just from the hostel.
Plenty of parking. Comfortable bunks with warm showers, great views, big kitchen, dining & lounge areas.

Beautiful spot for stunning views. Quiet. Excellent value. Very clean and tidy. WiFi worked flawlessly. Night lights next to the bed. There aren't many parking spaces. The staff was impolite. There were no proper signs or directions to the location. There are no cameras. With the heating on, it's too hot. The building does not like the image. Lot's of banging noise when trying to sleep.

Lovely clean rooms with outstanding views of the north Pennines and surrounding countryside.
Excellent kitchen and comfortable dining room/lounge.
No hotel has a location like this - proper wild remote land .
Easy access to the Pennine way and a great day ring walk following the way south to the nearby waterfall and dam, then swing north back to the hostel via the reservoir access road.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights over the Easter bank holiday. It was so nice to get away and surround ourselves in nature. From lapwings and curlews to sheep outside our window it was a brilliant escape we so desperately needed. We arrived a little earlier and with no staff there yet we were unable to get it, luckily a guest kindly told us the code to get it. The communal space is a good size with chairs and dinning tables. Lovely views of the surrounding area and a selection of board games that are hung from the wall. ||Staff were lovely, friendly and very helpful, the room was a small priviate room with a bunk bed and sink and a nice view out over the fields. The bedding was lovely, some of the best I've had at YHA, walls are very thin. We could hear our neighbours muffled voices and coughs, but seeing as we'd be chatting to them downstairs prior to bed we didn't mind at all. Other then that it was very peaceful night's sleep. ||There is a kitchen for cook and has everything you need, the hostel does have a selection of beer and wine on hand and there is a pub a way down the road too. We had a very comfortable stay, chatting to people, making connections, seeing the wildlife and having a camp fire outside on our second night. It was wonderful! Everyone seemed to come together and it was very relaxing. We can't wait to return!

This YHA is in a stunning, remote location. It is just off the Pennine Way, but when we stayed it was mostly families with children. The hostel has a lovely view from the window, the white-pained farms of the Raby Estate, and is well equipped with board games and books. We did as we always do, made friends with the other occupants and came away refreshed and happier than when we arrived. Its self catering, but the hostel will sell beer and wine (until about 8pm). Rooms are clean. What sells this hostel is the location, and you are within walking distance of some of England's finest landscapes, and High Force is a must visit.

Warm, friendly welcome from Rob in this quiet, traditional self catering hostel. Rooms and bathrooms spotlessly clean and kitchen well equipped. Great views from the social area and worth nipping out in the dark for amazing star gazing.||Easy access to walk out onto the Pennine Way - we followed the river path the Bowlees visitor centre then back up to Cow Green Reservoir. Lovely meal in Langdon Beck pub which has recently reopened. Pub grub at its best!||Aiming to head back shortly to pick up walks to Cross Fell and High Cup Nick.

Great hostel manager and team who provide an excellent welcome and support whilst staying at this fabulous remote hostel. A more traditional hostel which only offers self-catering (pub down a short walk down the road if needed) and a great chance to meet other like minded people - so a lovely couple of nights chatting to others about walking and cycling in the area and wider experiences.||Rooms, toilets, showers and social spaces all spotless and in pretty good condition.||Quite a few different opportunities for walking directly from the hostel; so across the High Cup Nick one day and along the valley to High and Low Force another.||The icing on the cake is the beautiful views across the valley from virtually every window!

A traditional youth hostel in a fabulous setting overlooking Cronkley Scar with walks from the door as well as being on the Pennine Way. Great base for visiting Teesdale and Weardale - a breathtaking journey over Harthope Moss from Langdon Beck to St John's Chapel. The hostel itself has all you need. We stayed in a private room with shared facilities. All very clean. Great social space with beautiful views. Excellent value for money. I joined the YHA last year as have been travelling for a work project and find them great places if you want a warm and comfortable place to return to after a day hiking and exploring. Very friendly staff who gave us a lot of their time. Definitely recommend this place.
