Rooms were decent size. Fairly scenic beside the Waters of Leith creek, with parks and a National Gallery nearby, with sculptures in a park. Breakfast buffet wasn't good value.

Just 0.5 mi walk past elegant stone buildings to central road with regular buses and trams to other sites within 2 miles, which come every 5 min. Just tap your credit card to ride.

If I could put no stars I would. Worst hotel I have stayed at by far. Paid £300 for 2 nights which is absolutely extortionate for the quality and service that was provided. Only one person on reception, so it’s time consuming when you want to check in. We had a room with no windows, it looked very sorry for itself and there was no air in the room. There was an air conditioning unit which needed to be on constantly so it didn’t feel so uncomfortable. The toilet and shower area was very basic, I would recommend wearing shoes when going in and out of the bathroom as there was a constantly wet patch as you stepped out of the bathroom which is disgusting. The room looked very tired, with the wallpaper missing bits of paint, snot and pus smeared on the wall. The breakfast was average, the cups are very dirty and have not been cleaned properly so I would get a tissue to clean it before using. The breakfast attendant a young girl, couldn’t really care for her job as she tried to tell me to pay for breakfast which was already included in the price of the room. She wasn’t listening and didn’t really have interest for her job. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, it would be better to pay more and get a better service elsewhere.

Stayed on this hotel for 4 nights as part of a coach tour from the midlands. |Rooms- very basic. Shower over bath- old. Bathroom needed an upgrade- toilet wouldn’t flush properly. Bed comfortable. |Meals- buffet style. Not enough food served to supply 4 full coaches and other hotel guests. Food beaky warm and limited choice. |Breakfast about the same. |Dining room- or should I say a room with as many tables and chairs crammed into one space. You couldn’t pull your chair back to sit at table or get up. A most unwelcoming room to eat in. |Room service- or lack of it— room not cleaned or tea and coffee replenished at all during stay. Any more than the 4 tea bags provide had to be requested for at reception. |No bar area to relax in, just a few tables by buffet. |Not a great advert for Scotland and least of all its capital Edinburgh. |The staff try hard, but are very understaffed and lack the presence of a leader!

Decent hotel for the price. Quiet area, room was clean just a bit old looking. I would happily stay there again, only thing I wouldn't waste money on breakfast as it was dire. And they should have more than one staff member to deal with everyone checking in at once. But not a bad experience overall.

We got a far better room than we were expecting! For the price we payed, which was extremely cheap, we were not expecting such a high class room. The view from the window (first floor) - phenomenal! To go to bed every night and hear the nearby stream was amazing! Also, the room was spacious. The service was incredible! Fatima was very informative and told us about nearby bus stops upon other things to do. Fiona ensured our stay was pleasant before leaving. David held a pleasant conversation with us during one of the nights and ensured we were happy with our drinks.

The bus stop is directly across from the hotel (13) and so offers the option between walking or catching the bus. It sits nicely between Dean's Village and the Centre. Also, for an exploration holiday, it was perfect, as I and my partner preferred to walk than catch the bus.

So all in all, it has a lot to offer!!

Stayed here for the Robbie Williams concert, the room was very basic and a bit dark inside the room. |The bed was comfy but the room needed tlc stains on bathroom ceiling, the room wasn’t very appealing. It had a fridge and great fan.|The breakfast was ok, no sauces available. |Overall we paid £205 for 1 night this should of been way cheaper but due to concert in the area obviously the price was higher it was a 20-25 minute walk along a river to the stadium.

Stayed here for one night and absolutely shocking. Started off by going into reception asking about their car park got told she wasn’t sure if the bottom part of the car park was part of the hotel, so got told we could park in front of reception even though the car park was full. She then said you can try the underneath parking but I don’t know where it is, this lead us to finding it on our own. May we say it is very cramped with big pillars in the way and parking was not laid out the best. Got up to the room it was late at night so by this time we just wanted our beds. Went into the bathroom to find the bathtub had yellow stains all over it and strands of hair in it. There was a white sticker on the bottom of the bath tub which had gone yellow like someone had peed in the bathtub, to then finding a spider crawling on the bathroom floor. The window was open before we had even got into the room and it was very difficult to get it shut as it just kept opening but we had to get it closed as there was a child sleeping next to the window. Went into the double bed to find there was blood stains on the sheet and the mattress cover didn’t even fit the whole bed. Tea and coffee station in the room had everything but the cups. Very disappointed to say the least and most very likely will not be back at all!!!!

I wouldn’t say I had a very pleasant stay. To start with, they gave me a room in the basement—and there was no lift to get there. It felt claustrophobic, with no windows. When I asked about it, they said, “You booked a room with no view.” Well, that doesn’t mean you stick someone in a basement room that’s hard to even find!

I ended up paying an extra ÂŁ20 per night to upgrade to a room on the 3rd floor, which was much better.
When our taxi dropped us off, I was surprised at how far down the hotel was located—it felt like a bit of a hike just to get up to the main road.

The Britannia has 178 rooms and is definitely a budget hotel. It’s quite far from the main attractions and about a 20–25 minute walk from the nearest tram stations.

We stayed for 3 nights. It was okay overall—mostly just a place to sleep after exploring Edinburgh all day. The room was spacious, and the bathroom was decent too. No complaints there.

The nearest tram stations are Haymarket or West End. Princes Street (the main area) is just one stop away, and everything is nearby once you get there.

The hotel offers a buffet and also has luggage storage. I’d say it’s fine for a short 1–2 night stay. Not bad, but it definitely needs better maintenance and more attention from management
