I stayed here for work. Absolutely lovely pub, the rooms were just stunning and very old fashioned but felt all modern in a way.
Whilst talking about the rooms.. I've given 4 stars due to a lot of noise could be heard from above me, I don't know if it was another person staying but they had the TV on late and also they decided to have a late night phone call and by how he talked he didn't even need a phone. This might of been a one off and I know I'm being super critical, but the overall stay was brilliant. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. I went down for dinner and I was not dissapointed, I had calamari, burger with chips and a delicious chocolate brownie. The cleanliness of the whole pub and room was perfect.
I would definitely recommend a stay here. The prices are very reasonable and close to the city centre. As I said I've been super critical on the rooms. Thanks for the lovely stay.

A very enjoyable stay in this old 17th century mill converted in a pub-restaurant hotel. The rooms are beautiful and very quiet with a view on the river. Staff friendly and helpful. The food is tasty, and affordable.
Perfect location in chelmsford, walking distance from the city centre and beautiful park.

The Riverside Inn is a beautiful and atmospheric hotel. The staff are wonderful and the place itself has a lot of charm. Unfortunately, the food in the pub was far below my expectations – the meat in the burger was tough, the lettuce wasn’t very fresh, and the lasagna was dry and tasteless. I definitely wouldn’t eat here again, but I can highly recommend the hotel for an overnight stay. The lack of parking is also a big downside.

As a former cabin crew member, I’ve seen my fair share of “overnight stays,” but The Riverside Inn in Chelmsford gave me the sort of check-in I wish we could have offered in First Class. My room was impressively spacious enough to swing a Samsonite, with a huge TV, blissful air-con, and a bathroom that could have doubled as a small room. The coffee machine and complimentary biscuits were a lovely touch, as were the bottled waters, hydration is key, whether at 35,000 feet or just down the road from home.
I live in Essex, but I chose to stay here as it’s close to work and meant I could enjoy a few drinks without the faff of taxis or the guilt of driving. Comfort-wise, it ticked all the boxes, and then some.
The only turbulence in my stay came before I’d even boarded my room key. They rang to say I was an hour late for check-in news to me that the latest arrival time was 20:00. Sadly, that meant leaving my friends mid-evening to check in and then rejoining them later. A small point, but worth knowing for future flyers… I mean, guests.
Once settled in, though, it was smooth cruising all the way. Great comfort, a peaceful night, and plenty of little extras that make you feel valued. I’ll definitely be staying there again, though next time, I’ll be sure to “pre-clear customs” by 8 pm.

Have been numerous times for lots of different occasions whether it’s a quick drink, watch the football or have a bite and the service is always fantastic
Came in today to watch the game and have some food with a group of friends which included my brother and his wife along with their 3 month old and 3! Dogs (berners / big dogs!) and the staff were unbelievable. All incredibly polite, friendly, and couldn’t do enough for you!
Not sure who’s doing the recruitment but give that person a raise! Team is fantastic

Had a flawless Saturday lunch at The Riverside Inn, Chelmsford, and it ticked every box. The setting is absolutely stunning — right on the River Chelmer with sunshine, great views, and a relaxed yet refined atmosphere.
I ordered the smash burger with portobello mushrooms instead of beef, and it worked a treat. My wife had the fish and chips, which she thoroughly enjoyed. We followed that with beautifully made flat whites (mine oat, hers skinny) and then a round of top-class gin and tonic and spritz — every element hit the mark.
What truly elevated the experience was the staff — absolutely superb. Incredibly welcoming, helpful, and attentive throughout. They really made us feel right at home.
A perfect riverside treat. We’ll definitely be returning.

Lovely historic buildings with lots of charm. Ideal location for peace and quiet. But being a stone's throw away from the shopping centre. Where you can anything in some very nice shops. The hotel doesn't serve breakfast. But there's plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from. I had an evening mean of fish and chips, which I must say was so fresh. Wonderful. I also must mention all the friendly staff who made my stay unforgettable. Especially Ben who managed to book my in earlier. I would most definately recommend this little gem. Just one word warning! As it's a Grade 2 Listed building. There's no lift! So take care of you have mobility problems or heavy luggage! But apart from that. Everything was perfect :)))

Attractive place though did not stay in the hotel. I just wanted to feedback on my meal. Please reconsider your vegan options. I had the Thai green curry. This consisted of watery sauce with a few very large chunks of courgette, onion and celery. It was not good value, neither was it a balanced meal or filling enough. Might I suggest adding tofu or lentils for protein. The other option of a mushroom between two slices of bread is also not a balanced meal. If the chef became vegan for a week, they would soon learn how to cook a decent tasty and balanced vegan meal. Until then I will not be returning. Though I would like to add the two non-vegans in my party were happy with their food.
