We've had our rescue cat for 2 1/2 years. Our application to adopt was straight forward. Staff were friendly and helpful. Despite it being lockdown at the time the whole process was straight forward. The fosterers were lovely girls who told us all about our cat's good and bad habits etc. She's a super smart and loving cat who even cat haters like! You do a brilliant job. Don't let negative people knock what you do!

Thank you so much to one of the ladies who works at Bristol & Wales Cat Rescue Centre. She gave me some fantastic advice about a cat related problem which lives in a squat type of a house. I explained I have reported this cat to the RSPCA, sadly the RSPCA haven’t the resources to take any action. Therefore it’s really important that places like the cat rescue centre exists, keep up the good work 🙏

Bristol and Wales Cat Rescue always go the extra mile to help cats in need of care whether its medical needs or to find a new loving home. The volunteer fosterers who take in cats who, in some cases, have never known a day of love and who haven’t had the care that they need and deserve. I'd never had a cat before,but fell in love literally with one of daw on Facebook...called Soso. I had the normal checks and was allowed to have her.

I couldn't ask for more support for BAWCR or the foster called Pippa that we collected Soso from

2yrs later Soso clearly rules the roost and is absolutely amazing and so very very very very loved

I agree with Sue just a brilliant charity that rehomes so many cats in distress giving them all the vet treatment they need. The cats are matched carefully to adopters making sure they have a safe home away from busy roads!

My partner and I had a very strange and upsetting time trying to adopt a cat from this rescue agency. We were told that someone would need to check our house and back garden to see if it was safe and suitable which we had expected and was no problem.

The lady who checked out our house was lovely and thought it was all ideal… we have an extremely private garden in the heart of St Werburghs, a cat flap and no other pets or kids to warrant any concerns with even the most troubled kitties. Our neighbours have also had great success adopting cats from other centres who are now very happily re-homed.

After checking our house this lady told us we could apply for any cat we liked and that we’d only be refused if the cat was being re-homed locally… which we of course understood could cause complications.

However, the lady called Sarah in charge of the rescue agency…. who hadn’t met us, hadn’t seen our house and hadn’t even asked us for anymore personal details…. just decided on her own that we weren’t suitable. Despite numerous friendly emails trying to find out why…. so we may increase our chances…. we received only rude, short emails back offering no real explanation. She simply said we could only adopt very elderly cats who had not been strays, of which they don’t have right now. We dont mind an older cat either, we know cats to be defined as old from 8 years and above… of which they have quite few!

So we are most puzzled and disappointed in wasting our time and emotions on this place. We thought the only major concern was the M32 motorway being around 0.5km down the road. Something that doesn’t affect the cats on our street anyway. We also thought that was why they were checking our garden is secure from the street…. which it is.

My partner is extremely passionate about cats and animals, she literally has years of experience volunteering at good Cat shelters, she has personally rescued and nurtured cats n kittens who have been on the brink of death. So she certainly knows how to care for cats with even the highest needs. Naturally this was quite upsetting to be refused quite bluntly without much explanation. She even offered to help volunteer with this place, Sarah didn’t even care to respond or aknowledge this very kind and genuine offer of help.

We can only assume that Sarahs views on what is suitable these home-less cats are much different from ours and some of her staff. And even if that is just the case…. the way she handled communication of all this was terrible… completely inconsiderate of our feelings, and did not give us the time of day at all to explain and help us adopt a cat.

Its such a sad thought that all these homeless cats desperately need a home… but the management is either far to fussy or controlling to allow/accept many new adopters… and unwilling to help those who could potentially adopt…..so they will remain homeless!

I would urge you to look elsewhere should you be looking to adopt or put up for adoption. The management of this place doesnt truly seem to be in the business of ‘rescuing’ these cats. There are definitely better agencies out there.

Bristol and Wales Cat Rescue are brilliant. Homechecks all very friendly, always happy to give advice. Should an adoption not work out they're happy to take the cats back into care.

BWCR are the best. As a fosterer and now permie fosterer/ adopter of Tango I cannot recommend them enough.

They go above and beyond in the care of their fosters finding homes for cats that would not even be taken on at other places. Tango for example has FelV, FIV and had diabetes, if he'd stayed as a stray he would have died within weeks. Thankfully he no longer has diabetes and it's now about three years on.

They are kind, compassionate and have a huge knowledge of our favourite furry friends.
