Volunteering as a Maths Tutor with Action Tutoring at King Edward VII School in Sheffield has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. Over 1.5 years, I had the privilege of working with bright and eager students, helping them strengthen their maths skills and build confidence in their abilities. This journey not only allowed me to make a difference in their lives but also had a profound impact on my own.

Action Tutoring provided a supportive and empowering framework that made tutoring a truly rewarding endeavor. The school’s welcoming environment became a place of solace for me, a refreshing change from the demands of my professional life. It was in those classrooms that I found a renewed sense of purpose and joy, solidifying my decision to pursue a career in teaching.

I cannot speak highly enough of Rachel Taylor, my Program Coordinator, whose encouragement and guidance were instrumental in my journey. Her dedication to both the tutors and the students was inspiring, and her unwavering support motivated me to give my very best. Her support and reference were key factors in helping me secure a professional teaching role, and for that, I will always be thankful.

The experience of working with students at King Edward VII School was transformative. Witnessing their progress, celebrating their achievements, and knowing that I contributed to their success filled me with immense pride. This role not only sharpened my teaching skills but also reshaped my perspective on education’s power to change lives for both the students and the educators.

Action Tutoring is an exceptional organization that empowers volunteers to make a meaningful impact while fostering personal growth. The training, resources, and sense of community they provide are unparalleled.

To anyone considering volunteering with Action Tutoring, I wholeheartedly recommend it. The experience is inspiring, the connections are genuine, and the memories you create will stay with you forever.

Thank you, Action Tutoring, Rachel Taylor, and King Edward VII School, for giving me this incredible opportunity and for helping me find my true calling.

A well organised charity that provides the material for you. I have enjoyed doing voluntary in-person English tutoring with Year 6, and feel the pupils have benefited from the opportunity to work in groups of no more than three.

I would never volunteer for this organisation, if I could roll back time I would so I could find another company. The "employed" who are in the classroom with the children are nasty not only to the children but also volunteers (which they have no respect for despite volunteers doing everything). The company has 0 knowledge on disabilities despite explaining them many times to different people which demonstrates no leadership and no reliable record keeping despite them saying they have notified the area co-ordinator etc. Then you have the area co-ordinators who if they dislike you for some reason (my case I was outspoken) will make up lies and can't stick to her own lies because the story changes all the time. They have no regard for safeguarding, despite having to do an online "lesson" with them. Several safeguarding issues were raised and nothing was done by them. One last thing, to any parents or guardians if it comes to light that your children are going to get tutoring from this company then I would personally avoid and seek an alternative. I am fully expecting further intervention via a legal rep from this company, as that is how pathetic and petty they are, if they do though I have recorded telephone calls from them clearly dismissing any and all disabilities which is contrary to the Equality Act 2010 and the Disability discrimination Act 1995.

Volunteering with Action Tutoring is a great way to provide support where it is needed, no matter where you are. On-line tutoring allows you to work around your other obligations and the excellent preparation and support provided to tutors means that you can be immediately effective in helping the students. A very rewarding way to volunteer.

Action Tutoring have been well organised and helpful, enabling me to get underway with Maths tutoring. Their processes work well and the programme coordinators are good communicators, making the experience run smoothly. They are appreciative of efforts made to support the programme.
