Awarded one star each for the kind and lovely staff and supportive management. Despite my daily visits to my family member I ended up 'fire fighting' a variety of issues which on the face of it are minor but present a frustrating picture of the life of being a resident in this care home. Issues such as dental hygiene regarding dentures, very slow response to alarm, food uneaten as unable to cut it up, the loss of some clothing, left overnight wearing only a jumper she had been wearing the day before, lack of clean nightwear when had 6 or 8. All of this over a mere 7 week period!! It wore me out. When I raised these issues? Yes they were addressed but this only ever lasted a day or two before it happened again. A family friend told me that the place hadn't changed since they had removed their mother and that was 14 years ago. It is advertised based on the grandeur of the victoriana mansion it originally was and which is only a small.part of the extended complex. If you look closely at this listed building the decor and substance is tired and in need of money spending on it.

I have waited for the anger to settle down before posting this review. My mum went into the Alexander for 2/3 weeks respite with the option of staying in. During her 2 week stay she was robbed of her money, cheque book and bank card. Her room was repeatedly entered by a male patient who used to help himself to gifts from her room (chocs) out of her bag. As a 89 year old veteran I had hoped that there would have been safeguarding procedures in place but no such luck. In her 16 days there she had one bed bath only after I complained. They took it on themselves to alter her medication timetable from 4 times a day to just 2 with out consulting us. Thankfully we have now moved her into a place with proper safeguarding procedures in place and somewhere that can deliver the quality of care that are relatives deserve.
Shame on you Alexander. I do have a crime and incident report number for the main issue.

Now we have a new health minister. Our complaints will be heard about this place. Because the complaints that was made in 2022/2023 nothing was done. The CQC listened to our concerns and yet nothing done. The mistreatment of some residents and staff by the management. I won't put the names on here they know who they are. Big smoke screen and lots of manipulation. I did say that I would not let this drop even if you have been moved to other care homes . I wonder if the CQC ever did find out who it was that said to me on the phone the CQC wouldn't do anything anyway. I didn't even get chance to speak with the owner because the manager at the time told me she was in charge. Very nasty on the phone and I tell her I would taking this further. The reply was so what my reply is watch this space. Plenty of witnesses also again never got listened too.

My Husband Philip Clarke is a resident in the Brambles unit of the Alexandra Nursing Home. I would like to take this time to let the staff in this unit know how deeply satisfied I am with the care Phil receives in the Home. He is as content as he can be. He is well cared for by the wonderful staff. I have found each and very member of the staff to be caring thoughtful and considerate of his needs. I understand the challenges they face in what is an extremely difficult job. They do the job with humour, patience and understanding. So a big shout out to you all. Thank you for making my life so much easier knowing that Phis cared for so well.

My mother Evelyn Rodaway spent the last 12 days of her life in the Alexander Care Home and I cannot thank every member of staff enough for the care given to her. She was treated with dignity and nothing was too much trouble. They allowed her family to spend precious hours making their final memories. The worst time of our lives was made into something beautiful and we will be forever grateful.

My father in law was a resident of the Brooklands Dementia Wing from around 2015 to late 2020, which my family agreed was out best choice after we did a lot of research of residential dementia care units in the local area. Me and my family's experience was of a caring group of staff doing an incredibly difficult job given the range of conditions of the residents. As someone who regularly visited the wing and took my father in law out for trips, the staff over the years have done their best to give the residents the best possible care. There are always going to be small things that could be said about improvements but our honest review is that we are so glad my father in law was cared for at the Brooklands wing for the last few years of his life. We would have no hesitation about recommending this care home and want to say thank you all the staff who looked after Jack.

My mother-in-law went into the Brooklands dementia unit side of the home for a trial stay. Visited her on numerous occasions and each time she seemed agitated although she claimed to be happy. She was regularly wearing somebody else's clothing that appeared old, tatty and creased and smelled like she hadn't been showered.
After a few week's, I noticed that she was starting to lose weight, so I asked the staff if she was eating and was told that she eats well. I then discovered that she was wearing incontinence pads when she isn't incontinent so asked about this and was told it was for leaks.
The staff initially seemed really nice and helpful, but on numerous occasions when I visited the staff were absent and when leaving, I found the majority of staff sat in the staff smoking area at the bottom of the car park.
When she was living with my father-in-law she was argumentative about taking her tablet's, however the home said that she took them without any problems everyday.
After growing concerned as a family, we decided to remove her and place her in a new home. When moving her we noticed that most of her new clothing had dissapeared and the new home said that when they shower her she was filthy.
After a few days in the new home, the staff there had noticed that she was not eating, spitting her tablet's out, argumentative about showering and didn't need incontinence pads.
She hadn't had a medication review, like we had been told she had, so the new home called in her doctor. She had a kidney infection, even though the staff at Alexandra had said they had tested her for it, and her blood pressure was high leading the doctor to believe she hadn't been taking her medication for some time. He then changed her medication to liquid form. She was weighed and had lost nearly 2 stone during her time at the Alexandra.
Since moving she has put weight back on, is not agitated any more and is all round happier and healthier. She has also stopped deteriorating as fast as she was doing due to her now getting the medication that she needs.
The staff at Alexandra lied to us on several different occasions making out that she was perfectly fine when she obviously wasn't. I would not recommend this home for anyone or their relatives as they did not look after my mother-in-law very well at all.
