I had the pleasure of working with the incredible staff at Alternatives to get them voter registration ready for some upcoming events! They really care about Uptown.

The therapist they paired me with last year would be "multitasking" while I spoke, she would be washing her dishes and even admitted to being on Facebook during our sessions. The sessions were helpful in a way, but its discouraging to be open when your therapist clearly isn't listening. On top of that, my last couple of sessions were canceled/rescheduled a couple of times, which was rough.

My last scheduled session, I got an email 2 minutes before the "10 minute cutoff" (even after I had messaged saying I was going to be a bit late) saying that we would have to reschedule. Being a therapist really is just a paycheck for some people, and it's discouraging to trust other therapists after meeting someone like this.

The one thing that I did appreciate: someone from Alternatives reached out to me referring me to other places for therapy after I voiced my concerns.

A great place for kids in the uptown community, provides after school care for young kids and activities for older ones. There's also a crisis center here for kids and adolescents, and a very nice summer break program.
