When coming into the home as the hairdresser, great staff support, always greeted with kindness and provided with great facilities to make residents experience enjoyable

My mother stayed at Maple Leaf Lodge for 8 weeks. The home initially impressed me with its luxurious appearance but it soon felt more corporate than homely. The decor was coordinated but lacked the homeliness and comfort my mum needed. The sensory room and bathroom, though well-designed, were rarely used.
Staffing levels were insufficient, leaving many residents, including my mum, without the necessary assistance. The memory lane unit, housing 30 residents, was overwhelming for those in the early stages of dementia, and my mum deteriorated. Many design flaws, such as poorly arranged en-suites, made her stay more difficult.
After moving my mum to a different home with higher staffing, smaller units, and a more homely environment, her well-being significantly improved. While the care staff at Maple Leaf Lodge were kind, the issues seem systemic. I'd appreciate if Barchester shared their response to this review with the CQC.

On a positive note, some of the staff were warm, empathetic and caring. However, they were incredibly understaffed and over worked, which led to failings in service and care. Some other members of staff appeared not to care & just did the minimum possible. Don't trust the positive reviews - Nine of them written by people who admit they work or volunteer at the home. I'm sure this is against Google's policy. I compiled a complaint for the CQC, but it was so upsetting and distressing, I decided not to pursue it. Only writing this as Google prompted me to review it and I wanted to warn others, not to put your loved ones in Maple Lodge. (I'm sorry for the few genuine, caring people who worked there, but I had to let others know the truth.)

This was an emergency respite admission as the lift in our facility was broken. We three ladies were made very welcome considering they only had a few hours warning. The home is very clean with smart decor. The receptionist and care staff are very kind and the care is exceptional. Three meals a day are well cooked and presented. There is a choice at every meal. I would recommend this care home for its friendliness and professionalism

This was an emergency respite admission as the lift at our facility was broken. There are three of us and we were made very welcome. The care staff are excellent and there are several activities on offer. We had three meals a day with a choice at each meal and the food was perfectly cooked daily on the premises. The reception staff were very helpful and I would recommend this care home for its welcoming decor and helpful staff.

They took us in(3 ladies) after our lift broke. Nothing has ever been to much trouble for either the carers or the admin staff to sort out. The building is very nicely decorated, plenty of housekeeping staff maintaining it very well. Food is freshly made and cooked on site. Plenty of drinks and biscuits and homemade cakes on offer throughout the day. I can highly recommend this place. Also have an activity co-ordinater on site.
