The abbey is part of the Beaulieu ticket. Very interesting abbey ruins and exhibition that shared more about its history as the largest English Cistercian abbey (until the dissolution of the monasteries), what life was like for the people there, and notable objects. We spent about 20-30 minutes reading through the information and enjoying the peaceful area.

Visited 17/8 for Simply Aston. By chance I stumbled on a brilliant display of Falconry in the Cloisters. The Head Falconer was a revelation and the audience was captivated. The Birds flew amongst us and it was thrilling not only these Birds of Prey but also to feel the history of the activity 800 years ago. Thank you.
I sat in the Drawing Room of the Palace House and a pianist played some Schubert. The gardens then beckoned before I visited the Russian Exhibition in the Clock House. What a lovely day

Once a thriving Cistercian monastery is now left dormant and available to look around. Majority is just ruins, but some of the buildings - notably those surrounding the cloister still remain. Lots of herbs are seen growing in the Abbey cloisters.

Spent a glorious day here in the September sunshine. Started on the monorail. Thought we were going to be there all day as we couldn't get the door open and the guard forgot us. Still laughing. Went to the Motor Museum next. Fascinating. Took a ride on the old style bus and walked back up through the Riverside walk and the gardens, looking at the sculpture exhibition. Then had some of the best ever fish and chips, followed by chocolate sundae, in The Brabazon Restaurant and Coffee Shop. Finally, went back down to the old ruins and cloisters to see the historic exhibition there,

Most of the Abbey is a ruin now, but you can still see the footprint and layout of this ecclesiastical place. Several buildings survive including the Church and Domus. The Abbey museum takes you through the history of this place and what it was like for the Benedictine monks and lay brothers who lived there. They maintained good infirmary facilities to look after their own. Don't miss the upstairs exhibition of Lady Montagu's Wall Hangings which tell the story of Beaulieu Abbey from it's foundation in 1204 to it's dissolution in 1538.

Absolutely stunning setting for this little 13th century gem. In the grounds of the Beaulieu Motor Museum lies the serene Beaulieu Abbey and Beaulieu parish church (which used to be the Cistercian monks refectory) The gardens surrounding it are well stocked and very calming after the hubbub in the excellent museum. We spent a long time here in this quiet spot just absorbing the atmosphere and enjoying the plants and the history.

Some of the buildings there, the Abbey Domus upper floor for example, are not accessible to anyone in a wheelchair but that didn't put a dampener on my lovely time there. I would love to return.

Well worth a visit! The abbey is a very nice place and you can have many great picture opportunities as well. It is together with the National Motor Museum and Palace house and others. Overall, Beaulieu is an amazing place to visit, even if the weather is playing up.
