This is an excellent community makerspace. Cosy and clean with lots of equipment. The member we met was passionate about the space. If we lived in Brighton we would join.

It's a cool idea and if you don't have access to your own workshop or don't want to drop the money on tools it's worth joining. Only real down side, as it's a fairly loose group of individuals, don't expect others to fix or report things when they break them, so you may need to fix something before getting started.

Nice core group of people, only reason I stopped being a member was lack of time and I have better/less abused tools at home. That and there was a push at the time to put time tracking on all machinery, so you needed to swipe your ID whenever you wanted to do something, sounded a lot like a way to generate income, instead of just charging a higher flat rate for access to everything.

BuildBrighton is an awesome place, where some really cool people meet up and hang out. Sometimes things get made, ideas get swapped and cool stuff comes out - but a lot of the time we just eat pizza, drink beer and talk nerd.

In recent weeks (Aug 2012) there's been a real buzz about the place. We've got some serious kit now - a mig welder, Myford lathe, a beast of a compressor, as well as the usual workshop tools like pillar drills, jig- and band- saws, and cool hackspace stuff like a laser cutter and 3d printer. More people are turning up and really cool group projects and challenges are starting to come out of the place.

BuildBrighton - the hackspace - is a really great place to hang out and make things.
BuildBrighton - the community - is an awesome bunch of guys and gals.

This is a really great place, for a fraction of the cost of a serviced workshop or a private studio space you have access to woodwork and metal work spaces, laser cutter 3d printer etc and a great network of like minded friendly, helpful people building stuff, highly recommended!
