Our elderly sister, Pat, had received good care at HC1’s care home in Bannockburn but as it was not possible to visit her very often we moved her to HC1’s Chandlers Ford care home so that we could visit her on a weekly basis. The transfer by private ambulance went well but thereafter was disastrous. The staff proved completely unable to meet her needs. After three days they reported that she had bruised her arm from hand to elbow and after 5 days she had to be transferred to hospital with a chest infection. We were informed that her death was imminent. However, thanks to the care she received from the staff at Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, three weeks later she was well enough to be transferred to BUPA’s Knights Grove care home in North Baddesley. Since then, she has received excellent care that meets all her needs. However, whereas Pat was able to walk, talk and feed herself when she first arrived at Chandlers Ford, now she is bedbound and unable to feed herself.
