I've trained at CheckMat Plymouth while travelling through the UK and am really glad that I was able and allowed to join them. I’m completely new to BJJ (or any martial art) and am very happy to have found this club. I’ve been training for 8 weeks, predominantly at Andy’s beginner/foundation classes and a couple of the 6am’s with Ricky. The coaching has been high quality, focused and patient with not only an emphasis on what to do but why you do it. It’s a club that seems to pride itself on its members and the attitude of those members is wholly positive and inclusive. I’ve rolled with men and women of all ages. Andy’s foundation class is attended by people on their first day right up to those who have been practicing for years. He breaks the techniques down well for beginners and allows the more advanced players remember the basics. The atmosphere is great and I thoroughly recommend giving it a go.

Absolutely amazing place to train. The instructors break the techniques down very well and the team welcomed me very quickly. The atmosphere is non-toxic and everyone is constantly supporting each other. Met some great people here

I have been training with Checkmat Plymouth for several months after moving to the area and gyms.They have great classes with knowledgeable and experienced instructors. I have really progressed my Jiu Jitsu and during lockdown they had several weekly online classes and drills. There is a variety of ages and experiences of members whether you are there for competitions or just for fun and self defence. I highly recommend joining.

I am a new member and I have found it a great place Train. The instructors have done an excellent job of creating a fun and supportive team atmosphere, no egos just good training. I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone wishing to get fit or try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Great set-up and value for money too.

I joined CheckMat Plymouth 3 years ago after I finished rehabitating an injury I sustained prior. It was a really friendly atmosphere with great delivery of technique. They were able to accommodate my inability to perform some of the movements due to my injury and I feel I have made great progress. So happy to have found this awesome club!

A fantastic gym to train bjj with. No matter what lever you are. Three very knowledgeable and friendly coach’s work well together to provide a training that covers multiple styles/techniques to suit anyone.
