If anybody is thinking of volunteering at the Colchester branch in Tollgate please be aware. I had an absolutely abysmal experience.
I was patronised, denigrated and sent abusive correspondence by management when asked for an explanation of their behaviour and a simple meeting to understand what just happened. No chance they closed rank. They do not want to be accountable to anybody . Coming from a business background I realised this people have no idea how to train or nurture new people . They have no methodology or system. all a bit 1960. Also no compassion and a very bias attitude.I was left distraught.
It has put me off volunteering for good.
Their behaviour was bossy and self righteous. There are no independent check and balances they are they own investigators if something goes wrong ...and it does ,and then they cover it and get abusive. That is my experience !!! Awful!!!!!

Without a doubt, it is a massively important service to the residents of Colchester and surrounding areas. The staff are always polite and friendly and extremely professional throughout.
We have dropped off food, cleaning essentials and clothes here which are gratefully received by the staff.

I needed to use this service due to bills going into food money. Felt awkward till I spoken to the lovely volunteers at the church in the town who was running the service. They made me feel like any other person. They got me. And understood my situation well. They obviously see it a lot which is a shame really but if you need it. It's there and don't feel like you can't forward and ask for help. These people don't judge they only love to give! They literally use there time to bag up all that food. Much appreciated! ? Sorted me right you!

I am very grateful for the help and support at a time like this but I must say before the covid pandemic and rises of costs of rent bills food etc and the conservative party just making things worse I could actually manage and not ask for help..but for a family of 4 I must say I am very dissapointed with what you actually get ..there's nothing for children apart from cans of beans 2 toilet rolls 2 shavers it's just rice pasta and beans it's just not at all good..I probably come across very ungrateful but it just isn't good enough I'm sorry.

These people are A-mazing. I'm often dropping off fresh food where my work has over ordered and they are so grateful and greet me with big smiles. It's great to do something worthwhile, to avoid food waste, put spent money, effort and energy to good use, lessen our co2 footprint and feed the needy. #wastenotwantnot #theworldwins

I rate the Colchester Food Bank is really Andy, as I just left the Army a friend of mine told me about you, so I went to the Food Bank, and I was greeted with a lady who was so polite and asked me, what do need I must admit that I was slightly embarrassed anyway I left the Food Bank, with about two weeks of food, Thank You so much ?

Such a great place!! So welcoming and involved in the community. The volunteers are amazing and their response to COVID-19 regulations is truly admirable.
