I did a Summer 1985 Camp Theatre Arts program at Dartington when I was 12 years old. What a BEAUTIFUL place! Dartington was FANTASTIC! My parents had moved us to London from NYC in the Summer of 1984 for three years because they had taken sabbatical from the college in New York they normally taught at to teach at Goldsmith's/University of London.

My sister and I had attended Beckford (now West Hampstead) Primary School for the 1984/1985 school year. I'd attended Beckford for 6th year and then was starting at The Hampstead School for my 7th & 8th years; while my sister continued at Beckford for her 2nd, 3rd & 4th years. During the Summers (1984, 85 & 86) that we were living in the UK, we spent them in Cornwall. We then returned to the U.S. in 1987 and I attended high school in NYC.

The Dartington program was six weeks long, and it was the MOST INCREDIBLE program! I ❤️'d it SO MUCH that when I was back in the U.S. applying to colleges in the Fall of 1992, Dartington was one of two UK institutions I applied to for my B.A. in Theater. TRULY exceptional place. So sad 😭 that the college has now been dissolved, but at least Dartington Arts is still there as an arts trust and organization for the community.

I'm biased as i was a student here some years ago, but it's still a beautiful place to wonder round. The gardens are a gem especially in Spring. And in general this is a peaceful place that also happen to have entertainment, cinema, and summer events.
