I was contacted by Eva, one of the advisors within 24 hours of emailing regarding my PIP mandatory reconsideration application. I received really helpful advice and a phone number was offered if I wanted. I emailed I would like this and received a call within 24 hours. I couldn’t talk at the time of the call so was offered a call back . I was contacted by Eva exactly on the day and at the time I was given . Her knowledge and advice was incredibly useful and the time she spent and patience she showed was far beyond anything I was expecting . She said I could contact her again if I needed further advice or info. I’m really grateful and very impressed

21/11/23 - Called in & left an answerphone msg which requires you to state that you believe that you are entitled to legal aid. I had already been advised by a Legal Advice Service, having gone through the financial checking process, that I am.
23/11/23 - I receive a call from DLS. The girl is abrupt and tells me she has just ten minutes in which to conduct the call. She instructs me to briefly outline my issue. I explain my mortgage lender isn't making reasonable adjustments. To which she rudely interrupts and abruptly states that as I have a substantial asset (my home), I'm not entitled to Legal Aid. She hadn't asked me any Legal Aid eligibility questions relating to my finances - I know what they should ask before making that assumption as I've already gone through an assessment! She was condescending and said the website "plainly" states the criteria when I asked her to elaborate. Nowhere on their website does it state owning a home rules you out for Legal Aid - I've had it before with owning a home! I'm not sure who she was but she sounded like she was employed to get rid of people rather than to help them!
I absolutely do NOT recommend this service - it was hard enough navigating the numbers that you get passed through before getting to the right department!

I have had a terrible experience. I am unclear what their remit is. You can't get through by phone. I emailed them. Their only advice "find a solicitor" This was having explained there is no free legal advice where I live and despite being eligible for legal aid every single solicitor I have contacted said "no capacity" they gave no advice whatsoever basically told me to go away. I am totally perplexed about who they actually help. I tried them a few times out of sheer desperation. Got no help whatsoever.

One of the few places that offers legal assistance. Greatly organised and reassuring solicitors. Very competent and high expertise compared to other expensive law firms that don't know what is the matter and still request money in advance.
To add that not all solicitors at DLS are good. In my comment I was only referring to my experience with one in particular. Others are of lower level and do not show any interest even if having 20 years of experience. Overall I do not recommend someone with several years of experience but someone that shows passion for what he does. Hopefully this clarifies that responding to any emails or calls is essential for the job you are delivering.

Thorough & detailed information which was most helpful. It was reassuring to know that there is legal help for people with disability when in very difficult situations.
