We happened upon this woods when we passed on the way to a campsite. What a beautiful woodland. They have a little carpark with picnic benches making it a great place to spend a few hours. Most of the track are wide and level, however there are smaller tracks that take you deep into the woods over footbridge and marsh land so make sure you wear appropriate footwear. We saw so much nature that was completely unexpected including, birds, dragonflies, squirrels, frogs and even a lizard. Some benches to rest on further down the tracks, Smithens chimney and lake is also located within the woods too. Dog friendly, fun for all ages and abilities.

Lovely woodland, plentiful mushrooms, including stinkhorns and fly agarics, throughout the year. Hard paths for buggies or go through the trees on the mossy ground. Managed woodlands so bits are regularly felled. Nice short walk from the car park (which is rarely full) to the chimney and back, or lose yourself by going deeper into the forest.

Fantastic place to go for a walk, good gravel footpath to walk along, with plenty of off tracks to go exploring, spotted some newts in the pond, a lizard or two. Sit down and take in what the eyes dont see! The old Smitham Slag Chimney was a sight to behold. Benches along route and picnic tables in carpark. Overall a lovely place to get outdoors and explore

Good spacious car park. Interesting place for a dog walk or run. A short-ish route (about 2km) and a really interesting industrial chimney on the way. My husband also saw a Peregrine Falcon there when he went.

Great place to walk the dog just follow the paths but wellies are a must in wet weather. Well worth a visit. Very quiet and peaceful sometimes lots of cars in car park. But you can walk through woods and not see another person! Maybe hear voices and dogs barking but not actually pass them it's so vast.

Lovely walks assortment of trees. it was rather muddy near the stream after rain. Be prepared may need boots or wellies
