Emmaus is an organisation that does far more than I am aware of, in geographical area and length of time. Not quite a modern day secret cover for the Kinghts Templar but I'm not arguing semantics with an old international institution known for its companion program of compassionate stability, come one come all philosophy just in case there is a vengeful sword-wielding protector hiding in the shadows.
And shadows aplenty there are at the Brighton Emmaus (in Portslade). the old buildings and converted stables are packed to the rafters. Whether you need a bed, a table, or something to sit on, furniture is covered. As are books and baking utensils, tea pots, wall art, candlesticks, commode covers, and plenty of pots for plucky millennials seeking hardy perennials, and contraptions of iron or steel that have the appeal of looking like they've got a story.
Each room filled with a different trove of the previously owned and previously loved.
Ten years ago I got a dining table and sofa for a house with no furniture in it at all. They've both lasted longer than new modern flat-packed origami furniture.

The biggest charity shop I've ever been
in. Wonderful place, full of bargains. The
best part, for me, was the 'Wood Recycling
Project'. The waste of wood is appalling.
These guys turn it into something really
useful. The work and purpose of this terrific
place is highly commendable. Popular cafe.
Sunny outside seating. Easy access.

Went looking for some furniture. Staff were extremely rude. Everything was extremely expensive. There were items that you buy brand new at almost the same price too. I would definitely say that they are out pricing some of their items. Such a shame really and I will definitely not be going there again. The best thing about there is probably the cleanliness of the toilets.

Large second hand (‘charity’) shop with lots of good and less good items. From plates to bed frames and from LP’s to milk cans. Not the cheapest, but there’s certainly a big selection.
