Yeats ago when my children were babies, I found Dr Carr outstanding. As a new mother, he found time to see my son when I panicked over small issues, but also over bigger things - particularly once where my son, only 3 months old had been seen twice with 'bronchiolitis', which was in fact a water infection he ended up in hospital with.
Now, it just seems to have gone downhill. I filled in an e consult, as a result of feeling ill for 3 weeks (had managed to get 2 appointments previously) and was told to ring at 8.30. I did but there was a fault and the pre recorded message kept cutting off then replaying from the beginning over and over!
I went last week after a terrifying episode where I awoke unable to physically inhale. It lasted 30 seconds or so, and was absolutely petrified and didnt know why it happened. (No history of asthma etc and it was 4am, I was half asleep!) Doc seemed blasè, suggested a panic attack...so, I said...but I was asleep...relaxed as can be! She said, yeah.....that doesnt make sense does it? Meanwhile I'm in tears wondering how many ways I can explain 'I could not physically breathe, and get air in my body'. My partner was with me and tried to reinforce this wasnt a stuffy nose, or a cold, it was a severe attack of some kind. Eventually she offered an inhaler. She did listen to my chest and lungs, but didnt do an asthma test, or check my heart/blood pressure, anything....
It just feels so frustrating, and mentally, I havent got the fight sometimes. Its a battle just to get an appointment! I know the NHS is a resource which is struggling, but it really does feel like what actually has to happen to be taken seriously? I hate going the doctors, and in my mind, if I try to get in there, I have to be feeling awful, and tried everything else!
