Had a lovely stay here while on a training course. Really accommodating staff and great communal space. The rooms and showers were clean and spacious. Sometimes the showers took a minute to heat up but there were signs explaining this is due to it being an old system. All meals were great, with the choice of a hot breakfast, cereals, yogurt, or toast. Lunch had sandwich or salad options. And dinner always had a vegetarian option. Our common room was really lovely and they brought us fire wood to light the fire and a projector so we were able to watch a film. Had a lovely stay!! Thank you 🙂

Great host and location for fieldwork. Breakfast and dinner were provided everyday, with a daily menu change. There was also dessert each evening too. The ingredients for a packed lunch were also provided in the sandwich room, with meat eaters, vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options for all food available. Everything was freshly made by the staff on site.
Rooms for teachers had an ensuite, which is much appreciated. (My room was bigger than how it looks in the photo - it was an L shaped with another single bed and had the ensuite as well as a small wardrobe). My shower was warm / hot but the pressure was lacking. This is understandable for such a large site for water to be pumped around. Students sharing rooms had toilet / shower facilities close by and different education providers were given separate facilities.
There are also classrooms on site with laptops. Having the hosts help out during the classroom sessions and whilst out in field work was extremely helpful for conveying local knowledge and using their expertise.
Castle Head also had drying rooms to put wet clothes / bags in. My coat and backpack were dry by the next morning.
Also, we had access to a common room for both ourselves and the students to use in the evenings (after field work) which had some games in, fresh fruit and a hot water machine.
Had a great stay at Castle Head - this is a great place to bring students for field work

My child attended this wk on a trip organised by school. After paying almost £300 she was TWICE given crusts of the bread for her sandwhiches (packlunch) as they ran out of slices!!!
And went to bed hungry after only having sweetcorn ,because they didn't have enough jacket potato's.

Shocking price. Shocking organisation.

We stayed here for 6 days with a large group of just under 100 people. Martin the site manager is very helpful and attentive. He was always checking in on us to see if we needed anything and he is full of information about the site and grounds. We catered for ourselves and we found the kitchen had everything we needed. The site itself is beautiful there is a lot of rich history imbedded in the grounds. There are plenty of communal rooms that we used to do our workshops and break out sessions. .

Fantastic location and a beautiful historic house to stay in, a short distance from the edge of the Lake District National Park. Beautiful views and plenty of space to take a quiet moment to yourself. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The fieldwork and team activities they organised for us met our brief and was very thorough. We were well fed and the rooms were perfect for our group of GCSE students and staff (think youth hostel in historic house). We'll definitely look to go back again next year.

I stayed here for 4 nights completing a course with work. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating, great social areas with hot drink facilities, we had an open fire in the evening and they even lent us a projector. The food was tasty and nutritious and catered for my complex dietary requirements. The bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas were clean. Not least of all the buildings and surrounding ground are spectacular! Would definitely stay here again and hope to complete some adventure activities!
