Very unusual Reserve. To get there you have to be prepared to show your
ID (you can pretend you are going abroad 🙂)
Fantastic place for walks. You can choose one trail or go for all of them depending on you. It's worth paying £1 for a leaflet with map of the site.
Lots of birds, insects and plants.
I liked looking for mushrooms carved in remnants of trees. Dogs on leads, children supervised and peace of mind guaranteed.
Take your time and make most of the reserve. Ticket for parking for whole day is £4. Definitely worth paying!
Not many parking spaces so not overcrowded.
Just perfect!

What a find. Magical place, nobody around and great fun to explore. So nice walks to be had, especially if bird watching is your thing.
We as a family had a great time here. Visitors center was helpful, sadly cafe closed before we were able to use it.
Just finding the in place through the army base was an experience in its self.

The access all round the garrison took some time and the gates locked and chained to the park, so you have to ring up and wait. I didn't know there was a Pay and Display which cost £3 with no change given so it was a good job that I had the change!! There is quite a long walk from there to the lake and hides. The water has been drained from the lake, unfortunately, due to repairs to the 100 year old dam, so it wasn't very pretty. The visitor's centre was very good and I was shown the bee 'hive' and a room with various 'stuffed' animals with plenty of information. Drinks and snacks were available and the toilets were very clean. Whether I'll visit again, I'm not sure

We did the easiest walk which was beautiful and peaceful, and took us double the time as we could just sit and take it all in with no other people about. Absolutely loved it and will definitely be back!! Didn't know we had to go through an army base and sign in first which threw us!!

An absolutely beautiful place that is really quiet and has lots of wildlife especially birds and a huge abundance of wood-sorrel.

The reserve has a huge range of habitats such as ponds, reeds, woodland, grassland and heathland, creating ideal conditions for many species.

Great place to go for a walk. Especially if you have young ones. Plenty to do, spaces to stop for picnics and not too busy.

We never have any issues getting onto the camp and into the covert, it takes about 5 mins to go through security and up to the entrance which is all fully signposted throughout.

The staff are always really friendly too!

A hidden gem with small varied trails on quite flat grounds. Located within the base with gated access, it’s free to park but difficult to find as you must call to enter through a large gate and follow a narrow gravelled road to the parking. Dog friendly but they must be on lead, however if quiet it is all very secure so let them off if you must..

Lovely little find this was. In the middle of the army base dogs are welcome on leads. Field office within the reserve is well worth a visit. Parking is £3 at the meter or the field office. There is a very nice bird watching hide located near the dam
