Parked here for a walk down the beach to Fort Gilkicker. This is a Palmerston fort built around 1870 but now derelict. Popular walking area with great sea views and lots of shipping.

Great to know these guys are there keeping people safe. Worth a visit on new years day to either watch or participate in the sea dip, where everyone runs into the sea, many wearing fancy dress costumes. This raises money to keep the life boat running, so bring some change for the buckets.

Used the adjacent car park. Lots of decent sized spaces. About £1.50 per hour. Fine views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.

Great place to watch a close up launch of an inshore lifeboat.

This is one of two stations in the Solent run by GAFIRS which is an independent lifeboat and inshore rescue service that was founded in 1969. As a declared facility to the UK Coastguard, they provide emergency lifeboat cover to the Eastern Solent and Portsmouth Harbour.
